What went wrong here???

It could have worked so well.... I was asked to take some portraits and shot mostly on digital and then took two sheets of 10x8 Ilford HP5. The set-up was Calumet/Cambo 10x8 monorail with Symmar 300mm F5.6 lens, 1/15 second at f5.6. Developed in a Paterson Orbital in Rodinal 1+50 for (I think) 13 mi...

Re: Paterson Orbital Processor

Thanks Patrick. I tend to presoak the film before developing, so maybe it's worth a try to remove the fins.

Re: Paterson Orbital Processor

Has anyone processed 10x8" film in an Orbital with the fins removed?

The reason I ask is that I've wondered whether the fins are causing uneven development on the edges of the film, but then I'm also concerned that 10x8 would 'float' in the Orbital as there are no pegs to hold it down?

Large Format Photography Challenge video

I made a short, light-hearted, film last week about a chap who has never used film before (!) being given the challenge of photographing an event with an MPP Mk8 and 12 sheets of Tri-X.

The link to it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl0Pa7UTpuo

Re: Clevedon Pier

Hi Patrick

I went there with my daughter on a Sunday afternoon when it was busy and used the Razzle handheld with a bag of DDSs over my shoulder, so I must have just looked like an eccentric!!!

Nice work Patrick. Here are some of the same pier taken about six weeks ago with a Razzle fitted with 127mm f4.7 Rodenstock Ysarex. Fomapan processed in Rodinal. http://gallery.photo.net/photo/9465186-lg.jpg http://gallery.photo.net/photo/9465167-lg.jpg http://gallery.photo.net/photo/9465180-lg.jpg

Excellent informed article. I would be interested to see the comparison of processing by different labs of the same shot.

When I used to work for a weekly newspaper I photographed fireworks many times on 35mm or on a Rolleiflex 6x6, usually on Tri-X 400asa on Bonfire Night. The technique involved stopping down to f16, opening the shutter on B and covering the lens when there weren't any fireworks going off to stop too ...

Hi Phil

I had a an old Graphlex shutter serviced by Black on White in Bristol last year, great service and they did a great job on the shutter (1940s vintage). I think it cost around £50.

Congratulations on the 203mm Ektar - I've got one for my MPP and it is a very sharp lens.

Another thing to bear in mind is possibly having to pay customs/import duty as it comes in to the UK. I bought an old Crown Graphic from the USA a few years ago and had to pay well over £30 import duty/handling fee, plus a trip to the couriers depot to collect it, which meant it wasn't as much of a ...

WTB: inexpensive 150mm lens

I'm after a usable 150mm lens, preferably an oldish Symmar or Xenar to fit on my 1950s MPP MicroPress.

If the shutter's not working it won't be a problem as I can use the focal plane shutter on the camera.

I'd second that - I had a 1940s shutter from a Speed Graphic serviced there and it came back as good as new.
