Re: A question on focussing

Hello and thank to everyone for replying to me about this issue. At least I'm not the only one who had this problem! :) I noticed that sometimes I need to stop trying focussing, step away and then try again. I fear that sometime the relative position of the loupe on my glasses lens could also affect...

A question on focussing

Hello there, this is a question for those among you who are bespectacled like me: do you find it difficult to focus correctly on ground glass sometimes? There have been a few occasions where the combination of spectacles and focussing loupe made it very hard to focus for me, to the point I couldn't ...

Re: Scheimpflug and another question

@Tim: needless to say, the bride was late. @Valerio & Dave: The wedge of focus is exactly that - a wedge. So, it's narrower near the camera than in the distance (as per my Rolls shot). Therefore you have to be very selective when choosing what you will focus at close range. In close-up mode,...

Re: Scheimpflug and another question

I don't want to be doing too much maths while composing my picture, but at the same time I need to understand the physics behind the concept. If the physics doesn't make sense, then I find it very difficult to apply things. I'm a scientist at heart, so if things don't add up, I don't believe they wi...

Re: Scheimpflug and another question

Thank you very much to evertyone for replying. It's probably the hundredth you get about this subject and I hope I didn't annoy anyone! ;) Having a degree in a science subject and working with maths as part of my job, I understand all the technical aspectes behind the Scheimpflug principle and this ...

Scheimpflug and another question

Hello everyone, I've been playing with my view camera for a few weeks now and I think I got the basic concepts right, which is all good. However, when it comes to tilts and swings connected to the Scheimpflug principle, I still find it difficult to get it right. I'm doing a lot of guess work to get ...

Rucksack and monorail camera

Hi All, I've got a question regarding the best way of carrying around my rather large view camera. Some of you may already know I own a Linhof Kardan Super Color, which I love; however there's a very important issue: I like hiking mountains and therefore my B&W case is not what I want for this purpo...

Re: Hello from London

Welcome Valerio, It's great that instant film is still available in 5x4 isn't it. Instant, one-of-a-kind LF photos have a wonderful "look" to them in their own right beyond just being used for test shots. I wish they still made it in 10x8, though I don't think my wallet could stand it :? Their are ...

Re: Hello from London

Hi Valerio and welcome to the forum. As you will find for yourself the Kardan Color is a super bit of kit, and very underated. I also have one, and find it almost as good as the Technika in 5x4. They are certainly cheaper and give most of the benefits of a monorail but with a quick and easy set-up....

Hello from London

Hi Everyone! my name is Valerio and I live in London. Since I began taking pictures about 20 years ago and looked in awe at Ansel Adam's masterpieces, I wanted to have a large format camera. In the past I owned both 35mm and medium format cameras, and in recent years I enjoyed working in digital. Ho...
