Highly diluted vs Two Baths developers

Hi again, and here I am with yet another question about developers. As usual, the question arises after reading the Adam's The Negative. He mentions that both methodologies have a compensating effect, so my question is: is one method better than the other, or do they give about the same results? The...

HC-110 vs D-76 developers

Hello everyone, I know this subject might lead to an endless discussion, but I will risk it nonetheless! :P So far I always worked with Ilford Ilfosol 3 or S, but I thought of giving a go to Kodak developers. The choice was, of course, between HC-110 and D-76, but I opted for the former, for two rea...

I tried processing using tap water as the stop bath, but I still get the pinholes... I wonder if either the developer or the fixer may have anything to do with it.

Re: Determing normal development for film

There is a lot to find about the optimum development of the negative for further printing in the dark room. But not so much for scanning end post processing with PS. Is it possible to say how a negative should look like for scanning ? dmax - dmin ? I would love to do that, but I don't if there's a ...

Re: Determing normal development for film

Thanks for your reply Gary. I suspected there was more than one way to do that. As soon as I will have a darkroom, I will do my own experiments, which is always a lot of fun! :)

Determing normal development for film

Hi All, I just wondered if you could explain the correct procedure for determining the correct normal development time, for a specific film/developer combination. Is the development time decided both on the density of the negative and the exposure of a test print? If so, how do you decide the correc...

Re: Definition of "Fine Art"?

Hi all, this is a very interesting topic and, possibly, one of the most difficult to give a precise and absolute definition of. Personally, I think that fine art photography represent the accomplishment of the technical and artistic vision of the photographer. The artist has reached a level which in...

Re: Fomapan 100 film

Hi Val, sorry been out of circulation; hence the delayed response. Basically the same as platinum printing, but using palladium, a somewhat cheaper platinum-group metal . I use the modernized chemistry introduced by Mike Ware, which seems robust and relatively simple. See Mike's website (http://www...

Re: Scanners info

Hi Tom, I use an Epson Perfection V700 and I'm very happy with it, though I have to admit I'm still learning how to use it properly. It's easy to use and comes with both Epson and SilverFast scanning softwares; I can't decide which of the two is best, but at the moment I prefer the Epson proprietary...
