Re: B&W film and ND Grads?
I agree. I've used a lot of B&W and never used grads. However, green/yellow/orange filters made specifically for B&W film are very useful for increasing contrast (e.g in skies) or shifting tonal values in conventional film. I find they are less useful with the likes of Ilford XP which also has the a...

Microtek ScanMaker 8500
I haven't used this for a couple of years. In good working order with drivers/software etc. Does a good job on MF and LF. £25 for collection in Lancs.

Kodak "Photography with Large Format Cameras"
I have a copy of Kodak's 'Photography with Large Format Cameras'. It's a 1977 publication but has all the basic info needed to set up and use LF. I haven't needed it for quite a few years so it's one more item that has to go. It's full of useful info such as tables for exposure compensation for long...

Cleaning glass negs
I have a small number of glass negatives dating from the 1950s. They show typical silvering around the edges of the emulsion. Some years ago, a colleague cleaned up some similar negs using Dura-Glit. They don't seem to have taken any harm in the intervening years. Is there a better, recommended meth...

Re: Velvia discontinuation
I suspect the reporter should have referred to reversal film rather than just film. But we are where we are. I don't have much experience of Portra but Ektar scans beautifully. Anyone got experience of these two emulsions?

Re: Velvia discontinuation
On Radio 4 yesterday it was reported that Kodak was selling off its patents; nothing new in that. But it was also stated that Kodak no longer manufactured film. Have I missed something? I know they're pulling out of reversal materials but if the Beeb is correct, that is just as serious as the Velvia...

Re: Velvia discontinuation
Just signed. Not because I'm a big user of Velvia but because I use 5x4 for a variety of reasons from straight forward pics to copy work etc. It's a valuable tool and losing any emulsion is potentially another of those deaths by a thousand cuts....................

Mamiya 6+lenses
I am rationalising my film cameras and selling off those that I haven't used much recently and that I'm not likely to use much again. One such is a Mamiya 6 rangefinder (6x6 MF) with 75mm and 150mm lenses. There's a body cap and both lenses have hoods. It has had fairly light use and is in excellent...
