Re: Numpti scanning question

I certainly didn't find any significant difference in scanning quality by "upgrading" to a V700 from a 4870. I still have a couple of "stonking" 40" x 32" prints from scans on the 4870.

Re: Numpti scanning question

You're more likely to find either a 4870 or a 4990, both of which are better than the 2450 and can be found for reasonable prices.

Steve, you can certainly order through me with the usual 15% discount for UKLFPG members. Unfortunately, Lee have closed for the weekend, so I can't tell you how long the lead time will be until Monday.

Re: Velvia 50 vs Velvia 100 vs Velvia 100F

I assume you mean -/+1.7 from the "middle grey" exposure value, correct? Anyway, I didn't expect the dinamy range to be so narrow... If you want more dynamic range, Velvia 100 will give you 4 stops reliably (+2/-2), Provia possibly 5 stops but Astia can give you up to 6 stops and a much mor...

Re: Locations close to London

Seriously though, the better answer is to advertise when you could be available in the Workshops forum and get a bunch of us together. Then you can take it in turns to "stand guard" :)

You don't have to run, simply swing the tripod by the feet, the head (without camera) should be fairly effective

Re: Velvia 50 vs Velvia 100 vs Velvia 100F

That's good to know, thanks Joanna. Does the filter make the colours less saturated then? The main effect is on the strong primary colours that are reflecting high UV, which seems to make them "scintillate". The rest of the colours are less affected. Take a look at the response curves on the data s...

Re: Velvia 50 vs Velvia 100 vs Velvia 100F

What about UV filters? I always have one stuck in front of my lenses, though it's just to protect the glass more than anything else. Fuji recommend a 2C filter, which is a very pale yellow, at locations where you are likely to experience high UV levels, such as coastal regions or high elevations. I...

Re: Velvia 50 vs Velvia 100 vs Velvia 100F

Joanna is a great fan of V100 but she doesn't know there is a world before 9am.  She'll tell you all about its benefits and her love of the UV filter. Heheheh. Living on the west of the country gives us interesting sunsets and evening lights. Play to your strengths I say   ...

I think Dave's solution works by stopping air movement past the surface of the lens/filter, but that could be simply an educated guess 8)

Re: Numpti scanning question

Well, you definitely need a transparency head to shine light through the film  The "standard" that a lot of people go with is the Epson V700. (other scanners are available  ) Or, you could simply hold the film against a backlit piece of greaseproof paper and take a shot with a digital ca...

Re: ND filters for long exposures

However when you are an agent for Lee filters you are a defacto representative so we nexpect your images to be shot with Lee filters :D I bought a whole load of Formatt filters long before I became a dealer for Lee; I see no point in throwing them away. However, the ND filters I got from Formatt we...
