Apologies for the delay, I got stuck in Scotland for a few days longer than expected, but I have uploaded my images to flickr and also some images outlining my working process, thought process and setup.

Re: The Heathrow gauntlet
No-one has ever asked to weigh my bag but on occasion, they have asked whether it can fit in to the cage. Occasionally, they glance at the bag during check-in, but I just try to look like it doesn't really weigh much. I did get on a surprise a couple of weeks ago when the bag didn't actually fit in ...

Re: Portrait exhibition
Congratulations with the exhibition, Charles.
It's nice to see that you have been exploring portraiture.

Re: Portable flash with 5x4
I'm a bit all over the place at the moment so I can't place the negs that I was thinking of, but I'll try to shoot some more during the next week and make them available. When I think of indoor documentary images, I think of something a bit less stylised than the environmental portraiture of someone...

Re: Portable flash with 5x4
I have done this in the past but I'm unfamiliar with the Metz flashes and the Gary Fong diffuser. The best place to ask about this is probably the strobist forum as there will be more people that are familiar with that diffuser and the Metz flashes. The main challenges that I have faced in the past ...

Out of Focus Photography at the Saatchi Gallery London
There are a number of artists from Saatchi's collection being exhibited in this show that use large format equipment. Before we go any further, beware that there are a number of images being displayed that may (quite rightly) offend the sensibilities of many. There are a couple of images from Mitch ...

Re: Edward Burtynsky at the Photographers Gallery
Cheers for the heads up o the pdf. That's really interesting.
From what he says in it, he only favours digital for when he's hanging out of a plane.
I've never tried to operate a view camera from a plane, so I'll let him off that one
This exhition is free and absolutely fantastic.

Re: Hoppe's Portraits
The 'amateur' approach, as derided in the press, is the idea that having good equipment will make you a good photographer, and that the newest is the best. I think you're bob on there, Susie. More importantly, I picked up a copy of the book on your recommendation and it arrived today. This is a rea...

I'll volunteer front tilt for the DOF and front rise/fall to adjust the slight compositional changes that occur as a result of the front tilt.

Re: Still dreaming of 5x4
Understanding which movements they will benefit from is a problem for most people that are new to LF. Reading about movements is nowhere near as useful as doing them. You could easily find that the movements that you favour are not the same ones that other photographers use. One thing that is also d...

Re: First LF camera Sinar f2 bought need accesories
Couldn't you just tilt the rail back and restraighten the standards to achieve more rise? That would work but if he changes his focus, he will have to adjust his rise, too. Charles, if you make an adapter for the 5x7 back with the single groove, then next time I see you, I'll bring my 10x8 back for...

Re: First LF camera Sinar f2 bought need accesories
I took my Sinar P with 10x8 and 5x4 backs to show Muz a couple of weeks ago. The only thing that I have seen that is similar to what you describe, Charles, is where this guy modifies a Sinar F(1?) to take a 5x7 Sinar P back: http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?t=83474&highlig...

That's an interesting photostream.
That film with x-ray damage is worrying.
What speed was it?
Do you have any reason to suspect that the lead bags caused the operator to increase the x-ray power?
Good luck with the large format!

Re: Definition of "Fine Art"?
It would also mean we could create fine art photographs just as easily with a camera phone as with LF film! I would agree with that. I have seen some of Wolfgang Tillmans' work in exhibition and museums which I can only assume has been done on a camera phone. I wouldn't personally think of them as ...
