Re: Waste disposal

The amount of BW chems I use is fairly small, and I suppose the amount of mileage I get out of a batch of Barry Thornton's 2 bath developer (roughly the equivalent of 11 or 12 rolls of 120) sort of recompenses for any one-shot stuff I do (HC110 and Rodinal). Diluting as much as possible for final di...

Re: Recomendation for a 90mm lens

Hi Dave - just been consoling my Angulon  Reading a bit about it, there was a fairly large amount of variation between samples - I was lucky, I got a good one and I am chuffed with the results - I don't need it for extreme movements, just field work. There's an interesting article here: http://...

Re: Lines on negative - reticulation?

I'd split it and maybe develop the shots you are least bothered about in the Precysol and use the rest as a test in the D76 - hope you have some luck and it is a one off. Ilford are very helpful re faults btw!

Re: Lines on negative - reticulation?

Hi Ian - I don't think I've ever read of tanning developers causing something like this, however in the wonderful world of wet development you neer know. It could possibly be a manufacturing fault - has been known to happen. The fact you say it isn't on the emulsion side says it probably isn't retic...

Re: Recomendation for a 90mm lens

Can I hold up my hand for my lightweight favourite the ordinary (non Super) Angulon 6.8 - it doesn't have much room for movements, but it is incredibly small and light, has no flare that I can see and is nice and sharp too - also cheapest of the pile by a long way. Try and find a later one (late 60'...

Re: Lines on negative - reticulation?

Hi Ian - to be honest most decent fims like FP4 and TMX are pretty damn bomb proof and reticulation is very hard to induce.
When you say lines what do you mean, scratches or development lines?

Re: Highly diluted vs Two Baths developers

To be honest (and this might put the cat amongst the pigeons) apart from more contrast gained with Dil H in HC110 (and that is not nearly as dilute as some people do with stand development and Rodinal, so I can't comment on that), I don't get a huge amount of difference! What I prefer about the 2 ba...

Re: Highly diluted vs Two Baths developers

It seems like forever since I have posted anything on here . . .anyway . . 2 Bath vs Dilute - well I have used both fairly extensively, tray developing 5x4 . . . Dilution H in HC110 (though not highly diluted like semi-stand Rodinal) is very good, but time and again you hit the old wall of possible ...

Re: Processing sheet film

Maybe a little late in the day, but Rodinal and D76 both work well with Adox and Foma. HC 110 is good too, but I would honestly go the Rodinal route - it gives a nice classical look with Adox, and as for grain . . . who's worried!

Re: Shanghai and Lucky Film

You should definitely go and test it for yourself. With regard to cheaper brands of film . . . well, I've had my experiences, fortunately none on unrepeatable images. Worst of the lot has been Fomapan 100 (strangely the roll film is fine - but whether I've just been unlucky with the sheet film, I do...

Re: Ffordes Photographic secondhand dealer website terrible

Andrew - thank you for the offer . . I may very well take you up on that :) And as for you Peter . . I just had a quick look and indeed it certainly seems to be Paul from MXV. The bit about Protech camera repairs gave it away! Now if only he could come up with some Super Symmar XL's for £15 like he ...

Re: Ffordes Photographic secondhand dealer website terrible

Thanks for that Andrew - with regard to MXV, most things I got were truly first class . . .other's (in particular a set of Linhof DDS) were pretty awful. This being said when I bought my DeVere, Paul personally delivered it . . . all the way from them to Dundee - a not inconsiderable trip! They pric...

Re: Ffordes Photographic secondhand dealer website terrible

I've had good service from Ffordes, except for a Wista 0 board which wasn't where it should have been, and I couldn't get! I do find them a wee bit pricey, but their service is on the whole very good. Mr Cad - ask them nicely and they'll email you a pic of the item you're interested in along with a ...
