Re: Does anyone know how to repair cracked Sinar F standards?
Hi Marizu - they're a total pain aren't they . . .but they are repariable with Araldite and gaffa tape . . .yes it looks ugly as hell, but it works. I'd recommend the Araldite Precision which is the slow-setting stuff, and keeping everything held together with masking tape until it all sets . . usua...

Totally agree with Ian - once you've used the wheels on the Devere, there's no going back! I love my 504

Re: Enlarger focussing aid for large prints
What kind of focussing aid do I need to check that my enlarger is straight for large prints? The one that I have only realy works in the centre portion of the image. Thanks in advance, Marizu Hi Marizu - I get the feeling you're talking about two different things here. Setting up your enlarger for ...

Re: Recommended 4x5 Film holders?
I've not used Fidelity, but I went with Toyo because someone (can't remember who) recommended them . . . . As for Toyo's bomb-proofness, I stood on a loaded and exposed one on a recent hill trip in my BIG boots - thought I'd damaged it, but apart from a few marks it was fine - there's a nice Vibram ...

Re: Recommended 4x5 Film holders?
I like Toyos - they seem very well made and have been trouble free for me. The s/h ones I've bought also seem to have been fairly bomb-proof!

A Deardorff - beautiful. Good luck - if you ever get fed up with it . . . .
One thing I would say with the Kodak lens (I have a 50's Ektar) is, though sharp (incredibly so) be prepared to compensate for a lack of contrast by developing more.

Re: Planning & setting up B&W darkroom.
Ecover is more environmentally friendly and actually works alright! Adox CHS 100 is a lovely film, though pretty slow - I get it to EI 50. As for surge, never had any problems with it using HC 110 (Dilution H), Rodinal 1:50 and Barry Thornton's 2 bath. Of the three, Rodinal and BT gave the best resu...

Re: New to LF: Need Advice on a Starter Kit
I guess it all depends on weight and bulk, Yes the Mamiya is a lovely camera and incredibly portable, but then we're getting into the realms of suggesting Fuji 6x7s or even Rolleis. The Arca 6x9 is pretty damn small and not too bulky . . and you could get away with just a rollfilm holder and 120 fil...

Re: Planning & setting up B&W darkroom.
I' ve never had 'surge' as far as I am aware - obviously if you are really sloshing it around you might have problems  I use a sequence of front left corner lift, set down, front middle lift, set down and front right lift and set down - that equals one agitation sequence for me. These are very ...

Re: New to LF: Need Advice on a Starter Kit
It all depends on budget, that's a simple fact. How much have you got to spend? Here in the UK there's a lot of really expensive gear (even second hand), we aren't as fortunate as our brethren in the States. If you're travelling, certainly the likes of a Shen-Hao (something that folds) makes a lot o...

Re: Planning & setting up B&W darkroom.
Oh and my darkroom (a long narrow understairs 'butler's' cupboard) has no running water either, though it is next to a bathroom, but I've survived this way for a number of years and I've not really had any problems

Re: Planning & setting up B&W darkroom.
Washing is easy, just use the trays you used for developing and fixing. regular dumps of water of the right temperature and good agitation works really well. I am curious as to why you would use marbles in flat bottomed trays? Why not just get some Paterson trays or failing that if you can find them...

Re: Any TMAX users?
TMX 100 works really well with dilute Perceptol, 1:50 Rodinal, and Barry Thornton's 2 bath - used them all, been happy with the results of all.
