Normally my suggestion would be to forget about minks and their oil and get a metal camera. However, given that this would get me stoned and beaten to death with old calumet camera cases, I think I better not make this suggestion... Ooops! How do you delete a post  Help! Sorry Jo, ...

Hi Nat. I would recommend looking for a NIkon 90mm f8 - plenty of coverage (easily covers 6x17/5x7), nice and lightweight with small filter size too! The Nikon 90mm/f4.5 is excellent too, just heavier, but as both have image circles the same size the slower lens is the cheaper option (unless you en...

They are both very good. :) Interestingly I viewed them last night on my calibrated MacBook screen and at the moment on my uncalibrated work PC screen. Nothing better illustrates the difference between the two. The images on my Mac are much more contrasty with the graduation on the second image grad...

Mink oil....?
I understand that I should use mink oil to care for my Ebony bellows. Is there a special sort of this I should buy or is there something more suitable?
...or am I expected to catch my own mink and put it in a apple cider press to extract all the goodness?

The alternative is to focus it initially near the GG and then focus outwards. For those of us who are interested in microscopy this is necessity when using expensive or rare objectives at the higher magnifications, especially immersion lenses. I use a pre WW2 microscope stand and most of my objectiv...

Stroebels book is detailed and comprehensive, but possibly so much so it risks maing the learning process a bit daunting. Its definitely one worth having at some point, but I found that the best introduction to LF technique was Jack Dykinga's Large Format Landscape Photography (esp. if you are into...

Hi Thingy, I phoned Teamworks (last month) and they told me the same, they also told me Robert White supply direct to them. In the end I went direct to Robert White to get mine. It’s a great bit of kit, still playing and learning. Looked at the book on Amazon, quite costly, is it worth it for a beg...

2.5 month waiting list for Ebony 45SU
I put my order in this morning for my LF camera with Teamwork and learned that there is a 2.5 month wait.... obviously LF photography is taking off big time! With a bit of luck I'll get it just in time for Christmas :P More time to read Stroebel's excellent View Camera Technique (7th ed). I o...
I have some monochrome photos taken of Suffolk in 35mm film, taken in Shotley Gate in 2002 (the former home of HMS Ganges ). Sadly much of what I photographed I will be unable to redo with my LF camera as it has/is being demolished to make way for a housing development. However the old Mast is...

As far as film holders go, I've now tossed all the Epson 4990 scanning holders into the trash and use a nice pane of very finely frosted glass from my local glass shop. Frosted side down, I made 4 'feets' for the glass pane using layers of paper until I reached my favourite focus on thr scanner. I ...

Apple and Dennis I see I probably won't need the extension back (he says with a great sigh of relief). I was concerned about the right tripod head as the camera alone weighs in at 2.6Kg and one of my wide angle lenses for it weighs almost 1Kg! I suppose my main worry is that in using at camera which...

Hi Thingy, I use the 410 with an SW45 and the 452 extension back - the 405 is just bigger and heavier... The extension back on a 45SU - interesting prospect - you're either going really long or really close :)! I'm thinking I might need the extension back for macrophotography with a Schneider 80/12...
