Practice Project!!

I am posting this in an attempt to get an idea how many folks are gonna actually take some images and post them, we can consider this a warm up to the main Project, a chance to stretch our creative muscles if you will.

The theme I suggest is ICONS. This is broad enough for the group I think, could be an Iconic building, view, person etc. Local or National, doesn't matter.
Duart Castle or Iona Abbey would be both local and national Icons for myself, Bauchaille Etive Mor, Maybe an MGBGT if you are lucky enough to own one!. It doesn't particularly need to be an Icon we all recognise, if its an icon to you, it's in.
I am sure we all have something/someone/somewhere we consider iconic.

I am suggesting a post date for the end of Feb, that gives us 6 weeks, plenty I feel. I am more than happy to offer help with scanning if thats what is needed by some folks. I shall speak to the moderators to see if we can get a space set up. I think it would be great for folks to post progress reports, it will help us to see a steady progress rather than weeks of apparent inactivity.

I would stress a preference, however in the interest of getting the idea up and running I am not gonna lose too much sleep over it.

I will say however that as it is a new project, posting old images would seem to remove most of the pleasure of participating for the poster.

Yes, I like the idea of icons. One feeling is that much of photography is about the opportunity to create icons, even out of the mundane.

The end of Feb is a fair deadline - the weather has been dire for weeks, but at least the days are now visibly longer. Perhaps one weekend we'll see some sun down here.

Small world, indeed. Currently there are only two images from Ystrad on my website, taken with a Yashicamat. I must take some film there again ...

The only exception to not using a 4x5 or larger is generally recognised as being 6x17 on 120 roll film. 100 sq cm is usually deemed to be the start of LF.

However, I personally tend to think of final images that are made up of stitched parts to be valid as long as the total area of the negs/sensors amount to the same 100 sq cm minimum; i.e. four 6x7 images stiched together, minus the 25% each for overlap, makes 105 sq cm.

At least that should keep the digi-players either out of it or , at least, very busy

Seriously though, If you have an image in mind and haven't got access to a LF camera, let us know. There is certain to be someone who would let you have a play with theirs - as long as the site is within reach of a tearoom

thanks Joanna,for your information ,I get confused at times reading the threads etc, I am building up I hope to being competent in L/Format,but at times there are different types of equipment being mentioned,And it throws me .at this moment I am using a MPP Mk V1 ,also through a generous member now have a crown graflex with accessories .So I am moving forward, and enjoying every moment,And I hope this project will get me off the starting blocks with a little help here and there Tom.

I wouldn't worry overly: Jo crops her trannies so that they're no bigger than that. Our website already has a few 6x12's there. As long as they're taken with a 5x4 camera we can't complain.

Hi d-a-g, how much longer? a week or so may be ok but I am reluctant to go any further than that, the point of this post was to get some momentum and hopefully get the other project moving. I am concerned that if we stretch this one, it too will stall!!

count me in for end of feb with the icon theme. I've been looking for an interesting project to do some 5x4 pinhole imagery. I hope that is OK?

All I need is the wind to die down enough to go out and make some pictures. I was woken up this morning by the flood warning sirens on the river Calder, which is far too close to my house. I hope everyone else in the group has been safe today.
