Well, you only had to ask, instead of muttering about itAndrew Plume wrote:yes, good news indeed - this was just the sort of new topic/impetus that I was leaning towards - my post yesterday over on the LFPF refers
Believe it or not, these forums are for the benefit of those, primarily in the UK, who are into lugging around big cameras, regardless of how they record those images. If you don't see a topic being discussed, all you have to do is post a message on that topic in the general discussion forum. If the demand for a particular topic grows, then we will do as I have just done and create a specialised forum for that topic.

Hi Joanna
but first for the benefit of those on here who do not follow posts over on the Large Format Photography Forum, this is what I said yesterday on there:
"Hi Joanna
your dialogue.......... is (of course) all interesting stuff - I'm all for as you say "....we.....would really like to raise UK awareness of LF photography in the UK......" etc etc but as far as I'm concerned, the UK forum does need some fresh impetus and I have some constructive (but not critical) ideas which I will post on the UK forum shortly............................."
- now I would have thought that that was a pretty decent, fair and uncontroversial comment....................
Joanna - you've given me no time to post anything on here - 'muttering about something' isn't the correct way of describing what I was suggesting or tactful............is it? and fwiw you yourself need to encourage people to sign up and participate in 'your forum' rather than to push them away
andrew

Great I've got a few questions about it, but it says when I click on the link I don't have the required permissions...I'm over 35 and remember the days when we had only 3 TV channels, thought that would be enough to get in

Hi Ed
Sorry about that. I'd forgotten to set the permissions properly. Try it now.

Re: Wet Plate forum
It's worth adding at this stage that if anyone wants to start a new topic, don't be afraid that you will be berated for your ignorance or concerned you will offend the owners of the site. Nobody owns the site beyond making sure the software runs smoothly and the spam applicants are weeded out. The administrators and moderators are servants of the forum. We can prod; we can listen out for trends; but at the end of the day, it's not our forum, it's everyones's forum.
If anybody wants to see any deeper changes, just speak up either with a pm or a new thread. We're all open-minded here.
Regards,
Charles

Re: Wet Plate forum
Hi Charles
a very decent and constructive post, thanks indeed
I as you know have a few ideas, one of which is the thread that I kicked off last year :
'show us your camera or improvised/converted camera' - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2027&start=15
which hasn't had any posts since February (which to me, is disappointing) - I feel that this is an important and constructive thread etc etc but it's become bogged down inside the forum that it's currently posted on - how about 'carving it out' and creating a new stand alone forum, just like the recently started wet plate one?
best regards
andrew

Re: Wet Plate forum
Andrew, you were fortunate to get a thread that long
Unlike larger forums, we haven't yet reached that "critical mass" that provides that level of impetus. However, I have noticed that things are getting gently busier; it's just a matter of getting as many UK-based LFers that we can to join us, but better still, to actually contribute

Re: Wet Plate forum
Hello Andrew,
If every topic is raised to the status of forum, then every one will in due course "become bogged down inside the forum". So we need to be sure there's enough interest. Since you're keen to do your bit and rethink the forum, here's one for you. What we are able to do is restructure the forums to make the whole set-up more appealing and in particular create nested forums. So, we could have an "Introductions" forum which divides in to "New members" and "Pictures of your kit". Equally, we could have Discussions splitting in to General and Particular with the latter splitting in to Wet Plate, Alternative Processes, DIY Cameras, etc. And we could split Classifieds in to Shops and Individuals.
Anyway, all manner of stuff would be nice, but it's a matter of working for the general good. If you and/or others want to discuss this, why not start a new thread under General Discussion?
Best regards,
Charles

Re: Wet Plate forum
I have nothing against the peeps over at FADU but you only have to look at the amount of topics listed in their forum to appreciate that 'keeping it simple' is best.
