Linking to pictures? Photo hosting sites that work.

Post by Tim Myers » Thu Aug 03, 2006 9:36 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

As we've seen that PhotoNet don't allow direct use of images hosted on their site here's a list of a few free photo hosting proivders who'll (presently) allow links to their images:

Flick
Zooomr
Photobucket
PBase

(In fact, I've not yet seen any site other than photonet who don't allow linking in this way)

I've not checked any of the privacy or rights policies for these providers, if you're going to use one I suggest you check it out and make sure that it fits with your needs.

Hi Tombo, I am a bit new to the interweb thingie myself. I read this thread and once the headache had cleared I registered with photobucket from the list above, it was easy and painless, even for me! once I had registered it was quite easy uploading files and then posting the links here in the threads, elsewhere too I guess.

I've been using ImageCave for some time. I use it to post various images to my other favourite site.... Rum Ration...:lol:

Hi Bob

The main reason why it is not a good idea to link to images on Facebook is because people would have to login to Facebook to see them.

You can also add images as attachments to a post. Just try not to upload too many or too big :P

That allows you to link to the page that contains the picture but, if you want to see the picture in the post, like this:

Image

… then you need to link to the address of the actual image, within img tags provided like this:

Code: Select all

[img]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5108/5648689657_c6e10e0432.jpg[/img]
The Flickr page address you pasted into your last message was autoformatted to provide a link to the whole page but, if you go to the little bar above the image on the Flickr page, you will find a drop-down button to the right of the Twitter button; click on this and it will give you the choice of copying the BBCode link to the image:

Code: Select all

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/53385897@N06/5648689657/][img]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5108/5648689657_c6e10e0432.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/53385897@N06/5648689657/]camera[/url] par [url=http://www.flickr.com/people/53385897@N06/]robert j fallis[/url], sur Flickr
You can trim this down to just the image tags part, as in the first code snippet.
