Canvas backdrop

I am looking to take some portraits against a cloth backdrop. I've seen pictures with what looks like a tarpaulin made of rough cotton, possibly even jute, which I'd like to emulate. The auction site has heavy duty canvas, but I was wondering if anybody had any other recommendations, if possible with more character/roughness. It probably doesn't need to be a heavy fabric. It's for B&W portrait with older lenses, so a fine mesh would be lost to the out-of-focus blur, which is not ideal. It would need to be large enough - say 2m by 3m (7ft by 10ft) as a minimum.
Any ideas?
Charles

How about a decorators dust sheet from B&Q or Wickes or such like. They are like a heavy duty muslin and come in large sizes, have added advantage of being dirt cheap !

Charles, would an old blanket have the sort of texture you're looking for? I'm sure that there are people who would be happy to donate them for the project, now that duvets are the rule.
