Printing blinds - advice on large prints on 'canvas'

Folks

I am interested in printing a large photoblind. There are various services, e.g. http://printedspace.com/blinds.aspx.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Presumably printing on canvas is a lot lower res than printing on fine art paper, so a 2400 dpi scan of 5x4 should be OK for a 60x48 inch print designed to be viewed from a fair distance away? Or should I pay up for a higher res drum scan?

Any advice from folks who have experience of this would be much appreciated.

David.

That link doesn't seem to work.

You need to check with whoever is doing the printing what res they print at. I know where I get canvasses done its about 150dpi (or is it ppi?) whereas most places printing photos work at 254-300dpi. So yes if printed onto some material like canvas you can get away with a lot more.

If your place prints at 150dpi then your suggested print size would need a scan of about 1800dpi, so you should be OK with a 2400 scan (assuming you're actually getting 2400 of detail...).
