Another one on the Jobo CPx bandwagon

Post by DJ » Mon Feb 22, 2010 2:04 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Having had a moment of madness and picking up a CPE-2 processor bath on fleabay, I find myself needing all the right bits to go with it.

I've worked out I need either a 2521 or 2523 drum, depending on whether the CPE-2 needs a magnetic or cog drum ( not seen one yet, so I don't know ). I also need a 2509N reel, which I'm hoping comes with the required baffles ( there appears to be conflicting evidence ).

Also nice to have would be the 2508 Loader, however, it's astronomically priced at £91.25, and even worse is having to spend an extra £35.52 on the 2512 Loader Guide for 4x5, nothing more than a flimsy little bit of plastic!

Pouring salt on the wound I see that Jobo does the whole lot in a kit, the 4341 Sheet Film Kit ( Drum, Reel, Loader & Guide ) which Badger Graphic sells for $180, about half the price of buying the same kit separately from Firstcall ( who conveniently don't sell the kit ).

Does anybody know of any other (local) sources for this kit other than Firstcall? Preferably someone who sells the kit which would (hopefully) come at a discount compared with buying it all separately.

p.s. and if anyone wants a 1520, 1525 and 2840 drum I might have those available soon...

If your cpe2 comes with a lift then you need a cog on the tank, otherwise it'll need a magnet. All 2509n reels should have the baffle flap things.

I've only used mine a couple of times but honestly loading the reel freehand is a doddle, i wouldn't waste your cash on the loader. Good luck with it all.

Don't waste time or money on the loader - I find it easier to load the spiral by hand. If purchasing a 5x4 spiral make sure it is the later 2509N spiral the earlier spirals suffered from uneven development and film escaping from the spiral.

While you can purchase tanks and lids cogged or magnetic from eBay You will find 5x4 spirals go for quite a bit of money, with seemingly no difference between versions. Almost all I have seen in the last year selling for more money than the new spirals (aprox. £35.00) available at UK dealers.

nn :)
