Spotmeter's - your opinions?

If you really want the John Wayne look, there's a belt holster available for the Pentax but it might not be the best thing to wear in the current political climate as apparently, it looks like you're "packing heat."

A Pentax holster and a Russion Zenith sniper lens outfit and I wouldn't last 5 minutes walking around Chequers area. Last time I walked in that area my wife was worried when I carried my Manfrotto under my arm incase it was mistaken for a gun - if you can get shot dead carrying a chair leg anything is possible.

A little advice needed from Pentax spotmeter users.

The Pentax digital, what size lens cap does it use, some I've seen advertised have them missing.

The older Pentax spotmeter with 2 batteries, what's the best replacement for the 1.3V mercury one, a Wein cell?

The lens cap is 45mm. I have fitted a good quality uv filter (40.5mm) on the front of mine so I leave the lens cap at home. It's much quicker to use.

Hi Steve, the battery for the old spotmeterV is a 640A, available from brewsters batteries. I just got a package from thm this am with three of them.
They are £1.90 each

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up getting an eBay Minolta Spotmeter F as Chong uses, it was a difficult choice. Just waiting for it to arrive in the post.

I use the Pentax; its virtues are that it is simple, easy to use, and intuitive (for me, at least)

Hi Steve, just to add more info to the discussion. I had - and still have a Gossen F2 with a 5-degree spot attachment and it works fine. No flash measurement but oK for the great outdoors. I also have a Sekonic L-608 which has flash capability. Of the 2, I would recommend the Sekonic; it's heavy and big but it does the business. there's a neat control that allows you to change the ASA in 1/3rd stops which is great for dialling in the filter factor. It has loads of other complex stuff too - far too complex for me.

I have used a Minolta Spotmeter F for a number of years and have found a great help when photographing Landscapes at long range with the bonus of a flash meter aswell.
