Changing Tents
Changing Tents
Hi,
I would like to hear some opinions of the above. I am thinking of the Harrison tents vs the Calumet box. I will be using it for 5x4.
Concerning the Harrison tents, although the "pup" is the recommened one for 5x4, is it adequate? I have rather large, sometimes clumsy, hands and am wondering if the "standard" tent might be a better option.
TIA
Steve

Hello to everyone,
I have just purchased a Calumet Changing Room and have used it for loading 5x4 film with out any problems. I used it to load a Unicolor tank for processing all went well,No fogging. In the future I will try it out with 10x8 film I will let know how I get on. The Calumet cost £42, a great saving on a Harrison.
Cheers
Roger

I have a 'pup' and it's the bees whatnots. Pricey but is more than adequate for 5 x 4. I recommend it fully and think of the interest you'll get when you're loading 5 x 4 in the tearooms

I'd add that I'm very pleased with my Calumet tent and glad I didn't splash out on the Harrison one.

I eventually got the Calumet version and it suits me fine although I haven't used it in anger yet.
There was some scepticism about whether you could load a grafmatic holder in one as they expand to triple length when fully open - there's enough room to do it and as Joanna said on the other thread, there's the height as well but seeing that I've been on quickloads for the recent past, I've not had any call to rip out a jammed sheet of film in a fit of rage yet...
I don't know how the Harrison is stored but the thing to watch with the Calumet is not to trap the fabric of the tent in the zip of the case when packing it away - it's a close fit and you wouldn't want to nick the tent material being heavy-handed.

After following this and the previous thread, I got the Calumet changing room. Arrived only three days after ordering. My initial feeling is that it is going to be more than enough for 5x4 and reasonably well made. I recall reading somewhere (maybe on photo.net) about some people having fabric problems with the Harrison tents - I think the fabric coating was sticking to itself during packed storage.
All I need now is an enlarger small enough to fit
