This is directed at anyone who is using or has used the Schneider Apo Symmar 210mm f5.6 lens (not the latest "L" version btw).
I understand that this lens has a 72mm front filter thread but my question is this ... when mounting filters is it best to "step-up" to a larger size in order to clear the (bulbous) front element? (I do this with the 110XL) or do you simply stick to 72mm filters? Any advice? Thanks

Hello Paul,
I have this lens and understand your concerns. Mine currently has a 72mm Heliopan UV filter attached to give the front element some protection. I fitted it carefully at first with a small piece of tissue paper on the front element check that it does not touch the filter glass. However the spacing may be different with another manufacturers filter and would need re-testing? I think the best approach is probably to fit a step-up ring and use a larger filter if you have any concerns?
