Hi All,

I have been approached by my radiographer colleague to take some similar type of pictures and produce into big (4x6 feets) ceiling backlit perplex transparencies. My question is would this result in any infringement of copyrighted concepts? Any advices much appreciated.

I am planning to use 8x10 to do the project for him and come up with a variety of shots. It will be exciting.

You can't copyright a concept, copyright only extends to an item of creative work. You could patent the concept, which can protect it.

Their website doesn't mention a patent, and the idea seems a little too vague to me to be patentable, so th ebest thing to do is to check with your local patent office. Most have on-line search facilities.

IMHO, (and IANAL) as long as it's one of your images, or one you have purchased rights for, you should have no problems.

Hi Chong

As Tim says, I would seriously doubt whether anyone can copyright or even patent the idea of taking photographs and putting them in backlit panels, otherwise this company would already be breaking patent, as this kind of thing is used extensively in the corporate world.

If anything, the idea of "healing images" seems to be the concept that this company is promoting, but once again, this is hardly original or patentable.

Don't forget, however, that your "unique selling point" is that your photographs will stand being enlarged to a decent size, whereas the text on that website seems to indicate that their pictures are taken on 35mm

Now, I know you can do better than that

Thank you for the advise and reassurance that I won't be infringing on anyone ideas.

My friend has given me a few ideas and these may involve pointing the camera upward. It might be a challenging exercise with the 8x10

.

I shot the roof in a listed building recently - spent so much time staring up that when I reappeared from the darkcloth I fell over...

Needless to say, a crowd had gathered watching me work...
