It is possible to get scan done cheaper? ...or does insolvency beckon?
My sister's Nikon scanner will scan up to 2x3 inch negatives but no bigger.
But its like many things and at the top end the more expensive you get the smaller the differences in quality, but it still there. So an £80 scan may not seem that different to a £30 one but in a very large lightlet print you will notice the difference, and the technician also can make a big difference to your scan.
Now from my experience a £25 drum scan is very different to a £5 flatbed scan and you will notice the differences there...in the details especially.
But yes as many point out the epson flatbeds will do well for certain print types and sizes.
It all depends on you final goals.
