Hi Joanna
I'd also be very interested in this
Next on your list could be a 10x8 version ...

Joanna, which Polaroid (Fuji?) holders do you anticipate being compatible with? I find the whole Polaroid thing a bit of a minefield (maybe that's a different post).
The higher overall cost of 10x8 film and chems coupled with the back breaking DDS might amortize the cost of the envelopes quicker than for the smaller 5x4 making it a more attractive proposition for using bigger film.
The idea of a 10x8 is quite intriguing if it could work in a 10x8 Polaroid holder. I don't know why I didn't realise how bulky 10x8 DDS would be. No wonder Ansel used a donkey. I'm thinking of getting one just to get them to from my house to the van.robinb wrote: Next on your list could be a 10x8 version ...

Hi Joanna,
Do you have a timeframe for production of these envelopes? Are you at an early stage of negotiations, or quite far down the line? Should I be holding my breath?
Many thanks,
Jenny

The 545 holders are compatible with QL and the defunct Readyloads - so it would be those.Marizu wrote:Joanna, which Polaroid (Fuji?) holders do you anticipate being compatible with? I find the whole Polaroid thing a bit of a minefield (maybe that's a different post).

Now that Fuji has announced it's discontinuing all Quickload
Joanna, do you have an update now that you know there won't be competition from *any* Fuji Quickloads after the distribution pipeline runs out?

Joanna
You mention that a German firm will need £4K for tools and a total investment of £10K to get it off the ground? Have you posted this information in APUG, as it is possible that following Fuji Japan's announcement that they are stopping production of QL after April 2010, there may be greater interest in the LF community for investing in this. Would you consider offering shares, on a non-profit basis, to raise the money, or some other incentive for LF users to invest in this idea?
I would be interested in donating £500 towards this project next year, if I could pay it in a couple of installments of £250?

I have just posted some information on APUG to ascertain if their members might be interested in the Carter Envelope System.

It appears there may be some potential interest in the US... following me posting basic information about Joanna's proposed system.

Re: Envelope System for Quickload, ReadyLoad, Polaroid Holders
There is significant interest in the US of Joanna's proposed system of self-loaded QL envelopes, which you can read via the link below.
http://www.apug.org/forums/forum44/7013 ... rizon.html
There is concern that it should not be as difficult to load as something called a Mido holder. Does anyone here know about Mido holders and could comment?

Re: Envelope System for Quickload, ReadyLoad, Polaroid Holders
I have posted a response to APUG. The envelopes will be relatively easy to self-load, the only problem, as with all holders, would be dust. We are lookng at supplying a loading jig which will simplify things but there is also a chance that we might also be able to supply them pre-filled with certain emulsions from a clean room.

They are still keen on the idea, Joanna. I've referred "Texas" Mike to the brief discussion about the idea of 10x8 QL earlier in this thread. "Oslo" Mike thinks the 5000 sheet viability target is feasible as he has pointed out that he has used 150 sheet in the past year and has 400 sheets in storage and another 100 on order.Joanna Carter wrote:I have posted a response to APUG. I would also guarentee you an annual order of 60-100 sheets.

Re: Envelope System for Quickload, ReadyLoad, Polaroid Holders
I can't imagine that the dust issue is any worse than DDs.
In terms of supplyng them pre-filled do you mean each time or just the first time you buy 'em?
I have Mido holders and they are fiddly to load initially, one type more than the other, but I found them no more difficult to "learn" than darkslides. I tried them in a tent and that was quite frustrating and as for a bag I imagine that would be a nightmare. I am guessing that doing it this way was the issue.
I found that doing them in the open in a dark room made all the difference. There was a thread on here about NVGs that I asked a few questions on for this very activity, I find it is quite a tactile task, which I am quite happy with, but NVGs would make it a breeze I reckon.
I can maybe post some pics if people are interested to see a holder. It may take a few days as my PP digi thing recently passed on

As I said, the envelopes are not intended for re-use; that would be your choice if you wanted to.gari wrote:I can't imagine that the dust issue is any worse than DDs.
