Scanner advice

My Cannon 9900f seems to be on its last legs and I'm asking what 4x5 neg scanners other forum members are using. I can't afford a V700 or anything in that price range. Are there any cheaper options that work O.K.? I'm not looking for fast scans, just good scans. I would like the ability to scan 5x7 & 8x10 as well (the 9900f won't do this, I've tried). I don't mind making some sort of negative holder if I need to.
Best wishes,
Vanman.

Hello Vanman,

The question is, how many negs have you got? It may be worth getting them scanned professionally, then you've got the possible best quality.

As an example, rented time on an Imacon in London is around £60 per hour. You could scan a load of negs in this time as raw 3f's. Download the Flexcolor software and do all the processing at home.

Or, have a look round for an old Epson 4870, 4990 or similar. Ideally something with Silverfast software would be your best bet.
