Don't know if anyone (apart from davejt3) uses Geert for film supplies of odd sizes, but he is currently not trading and has posted the following on his homepage:

Sorry,
We're currently closed to solve some problems.

Current orders are still processed and will be shipped

Hope to see you back soon!

GVB Groundglass

I've no other info on this, but given the recent issues with Retro Photographic it isn't a good time for wholeplate (and other) film supplies. Now about that Ilford order ...........

I did notice your post on APUG Peter, very frustrating when these traders dont communicate!

On a similar note what has happened to Retro Photographic? I see Silverprint have taken over stocking of Moersch products.

There is a long thread on APUG about Retro, but according to Martin Reed of Silverprint the position is as follows:

I'm not sure who said here that Retrophotographic were closing, NOT CORRECT. Nigel Dear at Retro is re-profiling the range of products he is offering, but is certainly not leaving the business.

To help out with this we took a variety of his stock which is no longer in his catalogue, which we are adding into our range. The intention is that Nigel can then concentrate on stuff which he is best geared up for, while at Silverprint we can increase stock of more bulky Adox products, especially the papers.

Just be aware that Fotoimpex in Germany no longer link to Retro Photographic.

There's a lot more behind the problems & delays than meets the eye, which hasn't been made public, and best remains like that.

Nigel sold some interesting products which no other UK stockist imported & hopefully he'll specialise in some of these with a slimmed down re-vamped Retro.

For what it's worth I have bought film from time to time from Retro and have had no issues whatsoever. The opposite, in fact.

Michael,
You are so lucky.
The phone is never answered, if it's not in stock you are not informed, e-mails are ignored. I ended up cutting 8x10 down to 5x7 last summer because I was so badly let down by that grubby little company.
Leave him alone then he can do what he really wants to do..............play golf.
Vanman.

I have ordered a few boxes of Wephota(TM) film last December from Geert and I've been very happy with the price & service. Geert speaks French as well as several other European languages... sure when you get no answer to an e-mail this is irrelevant ! ;)
I was just pulling your leg ;-) ; seriously : if was in need of a ground glass for some personal project of any kind for a home-made LF camera, certainly I would ask Geert since I know several customers who are very happy with GVB GGs; however I would be prepared for long delays ;)
Look at the current price & assortment of Geert's ground glasses.
Point me to a competitor and when I'm ready to order a ground glass (not in the next few months, though), I'll compare the prices & service and choose which I feel is the best !

Not a Forum for witch hunts.

I'm sure Geert had his reasons for disappearing, he has a life to lead outside forums and just occasionally that has to take precedence.
