I'm thinking of buying the 110 Super Symmar XL, can anyone advise me as to whether this lens needs a centre filter.
Many thanks

On 5x4 no, I have this lens and don't have any issues even with modest movements , thanks to the the huge image circle.

Definitely not unless you are taking picture of a white gallery wall on velvia ;-)

This is a fine lens and comfortably covers 5x7 with movements. I have used it on 10x8 and although it covered the negative it didn't allow for movements - but with such a wide view this wasn't an issue. I have used it on transparency film and have not needed a centre filter either for 5x4 or 6x17. There is one advertised on Ebay UK now - but marked front element hence low price. The front element is so close to the perimeter of the barrel that unless you use a step-ring for filters they will touch (and mark) the glass. I use a 67-77mm and this ensures enough clearance. Ffordes also have one for sale in their used section.

Many thanks for the replies, the good news is I don't need the filter, so I can put the money to more film.
