Just thought I'd warn anyone that hasn't looked..

Velvia 50 Q/L isn't available on the Fuji website at the moment. On Robert White they are saying it's a special order from Japan for £92 per box!!!!

On the other hand, Provia 100F Q/L is available on the Fuji website and it's being sold at £44 per box

The frustrating thing is that - Fuji does not communicate supply issues very well. I think Joanna did say in an earlier email, that Fuji UK will be importing fresh Velvia 50 at some time in future.

If velvia 50 is not re-stocked at reasonable prices I will use Provia Velvia 100 all the time.

Well, the last I was told was that Fuji UK had no plans to withdraw Velvia 50 in QL but they also said that they were disappointed with sales of the new film, in light of the furore over the withdrawal of the old emulsion. Well, it doesn't take too much brainpower to realise that many people bought freezers full of the old emulsion and could well still have quite a considerable stock to go through before buying any new stuff.

I have just spoken to "my man" in Fuji UK and he has told me that the next delivery into the UK will be November . Until then someone like Badger might be the best source but it would be wise to try and raise a group order to reduce the shipping costs per box. What kind of quantities are people willing to order? Is it worthwhile my sending an email blast to all our members to see if they want to participate?

Would it not make more sense to use Velvia 50 in conventional DDS holders? Has the advantage of being pretty cheap, a box of 10 commonly available for a tenner or less from Fuji UK. Great film though Provia is, it isn't a substitute for velvia.

It definitely would be a sensible way to save money -- but with this suggestion, you risk restarting the great DDS/QL debate... Grab your hard hat!

I can live without any of the Velvias. If I want a little more contrast I can push my Provia a stop but still retain the more neutral colour and contrast balance that Provia has.

Provia is definitely a more flexible film but there is something slightly magic about velvia - I'd be torn to choose between them (however at the current price velvia can ** off!)

Thankfully I've got a few boxes in the freezer - but I have finally bitten the bullet and bought some provia QL...

Based on how little I've been taking film images over the last few months, these boxes should last me ages anyway.

I've done a calculation based on film usage, my age and the amount of time I will continue with LF photography and I reckon a single purchase of approx £3000 on Fuji QL film will be enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
