Hi

I just got a sinar copal behind lens shutter but it dose not seem to work
It has a cable release which i pluged into the side and
there is the other hole on the bottom where you connect the cable to the darkslide
I dont have this cable

will it work without it?

If so how do I cock the shutter
the shutter is open at the moment

The shutter will work without the 'cocking cable' The red lever opens and close the shutter.

I think that the Sinar shutter needs a special cable release that has a long travel. If you are just using a standard one I don't think it will work.
Also, you really need to press it quite hard to get it to fire.

I just measured them.
My standard cable releases have a travel (ie. the wire sticks out) 12mm when fully depressed.
My sinar shutter cable release has a travel of 32mm.
It's hard to depress it because as well as firing the shutter, it re-cocks it.

I'm guessing that Dave is referring to the cable that automatically closes the shutter when the dark slide is inserted. I am missing this cable.

You can however test the shutter by carefully pushing a suitable sized allen key in the release hole....This will as has already been said cock and then fire the shutter.
