Best place to buy an Epson V750? Any pointers?

Post by David Evans » Wed Dec 09, 2009 11:12 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

I'm thinking of getting an Epson V750, and having done a quick search on Google, Amazon seems to have the lowest price, and Warehouse Express don;t look competitive on this item.
Just checking if anyone knows somewhere else that's reliable and selling these at a better price than Amazon, in the UK?
Thanks.
David

I think there's an Epson factory clearance website, that might be worth a look.

I bought one earlier this year. Amazon was offering by far the best deal. It does a v.good job. Happy hunting.

Dave - couldn't find an Epson factory shop or outlet in the country - if there is one it doesn't come up on Google or in the Epson site map. I could find one in US and Australia!
Any pointers to the UK outlet anyone?
Michael - Amazon is the best price now as well I think.

The one I saw a while back was part of the main epson UK site and I think dealt with clearance and refurbished stock, that sort of thing. Had a quick look today and it doesn't look like its there anymore, shame. I imagine these days they either they palm that stuff off via ebay, or sell it as new   .

You could enquire online at Microglobe, they have keen prices. They also have a small retail outlet near Pied Bull Yard in London WC2. Got a very good priced new boxed Nikon 9000ED from them last year.

I am at the brink of a purchase here and would really appreciate a word from the wise.
It seems to me the major difference, approx £110 worth, is the bundled software that comes with the 750 and not the 700, namely SilverFast Ai 6 (the newer version?) and Monaco EZ Color.
I've read that the SilverFast Ai 6 can be upgraded to a Studio version which suggests I might as well use the V700's version in the first place if its not that good?
Lastly, do I end up needing with a Betterscanning mask whatever happens?

Choices (squared)!

Personally I would buy the V700; the Epson scanning software is very easy to use and does a great job too!
Use the money saved to invest in a Betterscanning station - you won't regret it; purchase, customer service and aftercare are second to none; Doug is a great bloke to deal with!

I would agree with that; the Better Scanning mount is a much better way to spend the extra money.

Is Doug in America and am I looking at the "The Variable Height Mounting Station for dry and fluid mounting (includes anti-Newton ring glass) plus four reusable light masking inserts.$119.95 (Dry and Fluid) Plus S&H and option"?

Thanks for your valuable help its most welcome.

As I recall, the major differences between the two are that the V750 has an anti-reflection coating on the film lens which the V700 does not, it comes with the Monaco EZ Colour software and an IT8 target ( which I personally don't rate at all, but is better than nothing ) and the upgraded version of Silverfast ( which is a love/hate thing, but I urge you to persevere with whichever model you get, it really is worth getting to know ). You used to also get the wet-mount kit with the V750 when you registered it with Epson, whether this is still the case or not, I do not know.

Given you can upgrade the Silverfast at any time, and can buy an IT8 target from Wolf Faust which will work with any profiling software, and will most likely want to buy a Better-Scanning station from Doug, the V700 would seem a sound purchase.

Yes that's it. You will also pay 17.5% VAT on the total cost plus a processing fee to Parcelforce for importing it.
