Hi - I am just about to process my first lot of negatives using my recently acquired Atl 1000. The first process will be 5 x 4 in Retro's Pyro, I am fairly confident doing this. I have been practising loading film into spirals instead of going outside in the cold to throw snowballs

The next lot to process are two sheets of 10 x 8 film, I will be processing these in the tank designed for 120/35mm spirals or 10 x 8 prints. From what I gather processing film in this way can scratch the film. Can anyone advise on this? Is it possible to get scratch free film?

I have in mind to construct a device like a 10 x 8 film hanger but out of flexible plastic that will accept a sheet of film and be flexible enough to curl up to fit the tank. It should be possible to make two or more of these to process more than one film at a time in the tank (think of a spiral holding just one sheet of film with another spiral or spirals inside it). Has anyone tried this? Anyone have a better idea? Initially I will be processing B&W film but I hope to start colour in the spring.

I'd be interested to see how you get on with your 2 8x10's-
I might be trying a similar setup soon-

I was thinking about a sheet of thin styrene with corner slits-
like old picture album corners-
but they'd obviously show on the neg.

Might be a little tricky to load in the dark too-

Another option might be to tack them onto the sheet with some double sided mounting adhesive-
but that might lead to some anti halation layer effects-

Not sure I can picture the device you're proposing-
would be good if you have a picture, maybe...

I process Halfplate sheets using pyro in much the same way, in a Paterson tank with the light trap but no spiral.
I didn'thave any issues but Igot some sheeting to go in the tank.It's the stuff that bars put on the shelves for glasses, plastic with a diamond type patern.
Works well, but as I said I had no problems before I got it to be honest. The only thing you may find is the film sticks to the tank, this can be a good in that it can stopp the film sliding and overlapping etc if it is quite small relative to the tank. You just need to give it a good rinse session to remove the anti-halation layer. I would advise avoiding trying to put 2 sheets in if it looks like it may work, that will end in tears, maybe not the first time, but they will end up sliding/coming loose etc.
