Scanner for 5 x 4 negatives

I recently had to pay £53 for a 70Mg scan of a 5 x 4 colour negative on a drum scanner. This on top of having to train into London-more expense-as no-one around Salisbury could offer such a service.
I would like to investigate obtaining a decent flatbed (drum I believe would be seriously expensive) scanner capable of handling film up to 5 x 4 size.
Has anybody any experience of same and could they point me in the right direction?
Many thanks.

Epson V700 & V750

There are some other threads on here if you do a search.

Look at a V750. I used to pay a lot of money to get 120 and LF scans. They were very good......but with a little care the Epson can come close. The scan operator who used to to do my scans for me suggested I look at the Epson. Microtek also make good scanners although overall the number of new machines coming to market is falling with the advance of digital. I've scanned for output at c.30inx40in (c.300Mb files as TIFFs) and they're lovely. I can send you a couple of egs (compressed JPGs) if you want to have a closer look.

Hi John

The Epson V700 is less expensive than the V750 and you would be better off spending the difference on a Better Scanning mounting station.

I'm sure i read somewhere there's a v900 and v800 coming out soon, basically like the existing models but with LED lamps. Might help push the prices of the v7xx models down a bit.

There have been rumours of the V900 since 2008 but the only pictures shown at the time were of a V700/750.

They were sponsored by Fuji Film ... who then discontinued them without telling anybody.
