Schneider 72XL vs Rodenstock 75mm/f4.5

I currently own a Rodenstock 75mm/f4.5 wide angle lens with the correct Rodenstock centre filter. I find that it is quite dim when I am using it for architectural photography and was wondering if I would be better off trying to replace it with a (secondhand) Schneider 72XL instead. I have noticed that those Schneider lenses I currently own (the 58XL and 120 Macro HM) are quite bright viewed through my Maxwell screen. Is the 72XL brighter, or should I just stay as I am and carry on saving up for the Cooke PS945 soft focus lens

Am I going mental, but if your f/4.5 lens is too dim then how is getting an f/5.6 lens going to help you?

Is the centre filter soaking up 1 or 3 stops? Some say that the 72mm is not so critical as to need the filter. I certainly don't have too much trouble with the Schneider 75mm f5.6 although I occasionally use a linear (as opposed to circular) ND grad if I have a lot of shift or rise.
Best regards,
Charles

I must admit I kinda assumed people take their CFs off to focus/compose.

The screen makes all the difference.
I've been using an 75mm f8 SA on a Crown Graphic and I can focus & compose easily since I added a fresnel. The screen/fresnel needs to be right for a Wide-angle and some work far better than others. Some manufacturers made different screens for wide-angle use.

Ooops.... That might be a good explanation why I have been having problems...
I'll save for the Cooke instead!
Thanks everyone.

The design of the super angulon means that the light fall off is a lot less than standard lens designs so it is quite possible that a 72XL SA would be brighter than a 75mm of a standard design (assuming the Rodenstock is standard).
However, I'd save up for the Cooke!! and then let me play with it
