Reading another thread prompts me to ask who do people recommend for camera equipment insurance?
I'm not a professional photographer, and currently have my camera equipment insured via the all risks section of my home contents insurance.
However the policy only requires me to itemise individual items costing above £2,000, so nothing is itemised, as I look at a lens and camera as separate. Am I analysing this correctly?
Is a specialist insurance policy the better option, and how much do they cost?

Well i'm with E&L, been with them for a few years now and have their professional cover, but the amateur cover looks decent. You have to describe and supply serials for anything over a certain amount but you don't have extra added to you premiums for those costly items!

Mine is covered by my home insurance. I have to specify all individual items with a value over £5K. None of my photographic equipment exceeds £5K.... my hifi turntable on the other hand...

Its worth checking with household insurance policies - many consider a camera AND lens as a single item ... even though we know differently! I found this out when I claimed for a Silvestri camera about 10 years ago! If this is the case I would personally rather find out sooner than later. The replacement cost of an Ebony (45SU) with a lens could tip the 5K mark?

I use Glover and Howe and have had really good service from them, both for amateur and professional cover. I did go with Photoguard for a time, but found them more expensive and less friendly. G&H paid out as a goodwill gesture when one of my cameras fell to bits through old age as I'd been with them for several years without making a claim, which I call jolly good service!
