The Return of Quickload

Hello all fellow 5x4'ers

I've had 2 separate people come up to me in the last week saying that Fuji are gonna do a U-turn on withdrawing Quickload.

I'll probably give John Grayson an email tomorrow, but wondered if anyone else had heard about this?

I have started to use sheet film but for travel abroad would by far prefer to continue with QL. With a freezer full of QL and some sheet film I shouldn't need to buy any for a few years. It would mean however that I could also use QL for UK holidays and just use sheet film for odd trips out, studio, experimental and for infra red field work.

I can confirm that this is true, I was told by a very well known UK dealer/importer over the Easter weekend.

Well - Fuji seems to be developing a reputation for this.

It's incredibly annoying that they can't make this decision based on sales figures and talking to the photographic community but instead have to alienate everybody and wait until they get huge amounts of feedback before they reintroduce the film. I imagine sales will now slump again as everybody has stocked up..

But... hurray!! My Gnass Gear case isn't redundant after all..

I've just sold my QL holder and I'm not giving Fuji any more business than I have to. They couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery and they don't deserve my hard-earned cash.

You won't be the only one I imagine - they've burnt a few bridges with there recent behaviour.. I'm pragmatic about things. If the products are useful, I'll use them - if there were a credible alternative I wouldn't touch Fuji with a bargepole though.

I shoot with kodak 160VC as I do prefer it slightly over the fuji colour 160 neg films...just prefer the look.
(I shoot fuji provia tranny for any long exposure night shots)

That said, with all the time taken loading and unloading darkslides in a changing bag or tent, especially at the end of a 16 hour day in a hotel room when all I want to do is go to sleep before getting up not many hours later, the idea of quickloads are very very appealing...enough to switch my chosen film stock...not sure there (but as my film is all drum scanned anyway before lightjet printing perhaps the differences can be altered anyway!)

The Gnass gear holder is actually quite good at holding DDS - although mine is a bit bigger than yours...

This will be good news in my book, although I wish they'd make their mind up!

I am wondering if this was an April fool, or if the reply I received today from Fuji UK simply means that the availability of QL film is ceasing in the UK market only?

Does this mean that Fuji in Japan are reversing their decision but that their film will only be obtainable through Robert White, in future?

Maybe they discontinued QL, then reversed that descision breifly, then reversed on that reversal. Who knows what retracted U-turns could be in store. The return of RMS multispeed 100/1000...or not.
