Does anyone have experience of the Shen Hao LF cameras? Thanks. Dennis.

Hi Dennis, I have a TFCI, it's a non folder. Will shoot from 45mm to about 180mm a little past infinity, say 2 mtrs out. A friend has a Fujinon 300t and it was happy focussing that at a little past infinity too!!
It is well made, smooth to use and wieghs very little. I am very happy with it.
I have also seen a few folders too and was quite impressed with the build quality.
Depends on what you want use it for really.

If you go to gari beet on flickr, most of the last dozen or so pics were taken with it.

Ditto what gari said. You can't knock things for the money they cost.

(gari, I've modified mine so that the front tilt is independant of the rise - which is quite handy )

Thanks for the replies. It is the 5x7 that interests me & I wonder about the 2 different designs - pros & cons. Gari - we used to live on Coll thro the 80s. Dennis.

I used a shan hao a few years back..the non folding design that was similar to the ebony sw45.
I also used an ebony SW 45.

The ebony was certainly better made and finished and all the movements were more fluid and controlled and the bellows was more forgiving.

But the shen did everything that was needed of it.
It did not 'feel' like a high quality piece of gear but was completely usable.

I've been using a TZ45 IIA for a couple of years now, and I'm very happy with it.
Versatile, light, accepts a wide range of lenses, is very well finished.

I can't comment on the 5x7 versions, but for me the main detrimental aspect of the Shen is the size, it's quite large for a 5x4.

I recently bought a TZ45A - and while I'm totally new to LF, I'm really impressed with the camera for the price.
