Cheap Pano "Adaptors"

Post by DJ » Wed Oct 18, 2006 1:07 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

This is what I use for pano shots, as my Tachihara doesn't have an international standard back and can't take roll-film holders. It's as cheap a pano adaptor as you're likely find

I take no credit for this, I saw it on another LF photographer's site some time ago now, if I could remember his name or find the site, I would surely credit him.

Take an old darkslide, and :

This allows you to get two pano shots on a single sheet of 5x4, much more economical. Aspect is I guess 1.9" x 5" or close to.

What you get is something like this ( quick digi snap of tranny on lightbox ) :

Dead easy to make, take an old darkslide, score it just below the middle ( about 1-2mm ). Make sure you leave enough at the end so the full width slides into the holder, this is what keeps it straight.

The only downside is you have to flip the camera back 180 degrees to take the second shot, or recompose to the other half ( far easier to flip IMO ). :D

Be interested to see what other members use.

Chong's done that trick with a 10x8 darkslide and got some decent pictures out of it (there used to be one or two on here under the Northumberland workshop AFAIR if they're still being hosted)

I remember him saying that he'd also got the idea from someone but can't remember who...

've never tried it as I haven't got DDS - it'd make a bit of a mess of a grafmatic and quickloads wouldn't be too light-tight with a slot in the sleeve
