Microtek i900

Does anyone have experience with the Microtek i900? I bought one second-hand earlier this year, looking for a way in to glassless (and Newton ringless) scanning, and it's rubbish. I suspect that the lamps have gone, because even when scanning a sheet of plain white Mellotex (reflectively, of course) I get two miserable greens shadows, one along each side edge. The centre seems ok, so I could theoretically scan 5x4, but I can't somehow bring myself to trust it. Opinions, anyone?

(Incidentally, I mostly wanted to scan 2¼, but since my main MF camera is a 680 the Microtek carrier won't take a strip. And Doug Fisher has apparently stopped making his "special" carriers for Microtek. Bof!)

I've been using a Microtek i900 for many years now. I bought it brand new when they first came out. Although I have used it for reflective use, I primarily use it as a "positive" or transparency scanner if you will. I use it for 35mm-6x7cm-4x5 transparency scans. What scanning software are you using? In the past I was primarily using the Silverfast AI, but most recently down loaded the must up to date software from the Silverfast web site specifically for the i900. It is the original Scan Wizard Pro that was updated in 2009 I think. The only time I've had any issue scanning was the most tiniest of red streaks that could only be seen at "actual" pixel size in photoshop. I found that some lightly blown air inside the unit would resolve these issues immediately. I hope your unit is OK and you might try looking at both the Microtek site and Silverfast for updated software.
