Da Yi 6x17 ROLL film back

Post by Rod » Thu Sep 23, 2010 6:56 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Hi,
I think some forum members have a Shen Hao 6x17 roll film back, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried the alternative Chinese Da Yi (I think) version, or has any comments about it. I've just been looking at an *bay link that Stephen Vaughan gave me for top-hat extensions and came across this version of a 6x17 back at around £360+ shipping (Item no. 110318709305). The Shen Hao version seems to sell for around £550-600 in the UK.
I believe from what I've read in the past that the Shen Hao isn't exactly a piece of high-precision engineering, but wonder if the Da Yi is any better or worse.
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Regards,
Rod.

I've got a Dayi back I got recently second hand. Its built like a brick privvy, you could knock nails in with it. I've not found anything it complain about in terms of quality, infact I was pleasantly surprised.

In terms of the various models available I think these backs are sold under at least 3 names (Dayi, Shen Hao, Art Panorama, and perhaps Focus?), and being chinese may or may not infact come from the same factory, perhaps with design changes at certain points in time. Mine is like like this, but there's also Dayis like this with different latches on the end. I think some vary in which formats they can shoot. The latter DaYi above is for 6x17, 6x12 and 6x9, mine replaces 6x9 with 6x14, and I think the Art Panorama models only do 6x17.
