My son has just bought an iPhone (and no I don't have one yet!) and has offered me his iPod touch, just wondering what would be the most useful photo apps to have on there for LF... and I don't mean any of those useless apps that squizz your face or make your image look like it's been taken on a Holga!

Pro Viewfinder is quite useful, but the most useful app for LF'ers in IMHO is PhotoToolsPro.

I think Photojot is very useful.

Weatherpro - though to make the most of it you need a 3G connection so better for the Iphone
Day Tides - there is a free version, works offline.

Mill Colour (for adjusting colour balance of reference shots - ah... maybe the ipod doesn't have a camera?)

Flashlight (dubiously useful)


I'm sure a stopwatch if yours doesn't have one would be handy

Google Earth is handy too. Not sure how many of those will work on an ipod?

Tim Parkin will have a more extensive list than this, but on his recommend I've bought two expensive but very useful apps. They are great for sun angles and deciding which locations might work best at which time of year. They are The Photographer's Ephemeris and Helios. I use the former more, especially now I've loaded it with my favourite locations.

Viewfinder pro is ok so long as you don't want to go wider than native lens of iphone, cheaper than a Linhof finder, but usually the eyeball works it out anyway.
Others I have are:
TiltshiftGen offers some fun with selective focus. Photoshop (PS EXpress) makes the basic shots look better. Hipstamatic turns it into a toy camera with whacky 'film' and lens distortions.

I've just got OptimumCS which gives resolution in line pairs for given format/lens/apertures and variations away from optimum. Not really used it yet, was going to play at the weekend.

A bit clunky but very usefull..wish I could find similar application for my mac.

It must be really impressive, because it's sold out (or at any rate "no longer available on the US iTunes Store"). Do you happen to recall the app's developer by any chance?

[LATER: Nope, my computer lied to me! The link suggested that this app wasn't available through the UK Store, transferred me to the US Store, and then declared it was unavailable. A bit of low-grade detective work found it, though. Go to the UK iTunes Store and type "NuWaste" into the search box. Bingo!]
