E6 developing - lines on film

I have just developed my fist batch of film in Italy and there is a faint line running straight down the film about 1/3 of the way in on about half of the sheets. It is only really evident on the sky. My guess is that I may have been a bit slow getting the drum on for the first developer, but does anyone have any other suggestions? I will try and scan an image to upload.

In the end with the well water I tested the pH of the tap water (6., filtered tap water (7.4) and bottled water (7.0) and decided to use bottled water for all chemicals and washes. I was confused by the pH of the tap water which is softened before it comes out of the tap. We do use an awful lot of salt, and my guess is that the water is over softened. But I am not sure what the ceramic filters are taking out of the water to change the pH that much on the filtered water....

Jenny, could the line be a light leak ? Didnt say whether is was clear or dark !

On the same spot of the sheet or random placed ?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear, was I!

The line is on the same place on each sheet, about 1/4 of the way in parallel to the longer side of the film. To one side the sky is slightly darker (the majority), and to the other side slightly lighter, right the way to the edge, as it if has had a slightly different exposure. It is not a light leak. I will try and post a scan asap.

I would also go for this explanation.
Maybe you could try a prewash next time.
