Recommendation for shutter service needed!

Post by Phil » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:14 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

It has been a while since I got a shutter serviced and now I have 2 that need attention.

The shutters I have are a large Alphax 5 and a little Copal 0 Press - so not necessarily the most common types. Does anyone have a recent positive experience they could share.......who do you trust your shutters with here in the UK?

Thanks for any pointers!

You could try Newton Ellis in Liverpool, http://www.newtonellis.co.uk/. I haven't had them service a shutter but they have done other work for me to a high standard, and with a quick turn-around time.

I have no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer!

You can also try Malcolm Taylor. He's not on the internet, as such, so you'd have to speak to him on 01568 770542. He's a very experienced Leica and Arriflex repairer. I've used him for repairs to Leicas, modern Zeiss lenses for Contax, and Schneider lens services. The only thing he can't deal with is electronics, not even the circuits in a Leica M6.

Does anybody recognise the make of shutter in the attached?
The shutter needs servicing and depending on the make I may need a niche / specialist shutterman?
Cheers.

I believe that it's an earlier Compur, inside a kind of housing.

It's just a Compur hidden internally, Black on White can service it, they CLA'd mine on my 165mm Super Angulon a couple of years ago and did a great job.

Thank you guys.
I contacted Camserve in East Sussex due to the relative proximity to East London.
I plan to drop off the lens this coming Sat morning for pickup the following weekend.

Had the serviced Compur shutter from Camserve since the beginning of this month.
Great service, very friendly and accommodating - highly recommended.
£55 + VAT well spent.
