171 Arca Swiss panels

Post by gari » Fri Feb 25, 2011 9:20 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Does anyone know if the new 171 adaptors will fit the older models such as the Pro etc? I have one pending and would like to use my linhof boards with it.
Cheers

Some bits are different but from memory I had a mix of new & old panels and they did fit.

Hello from France
I can, confirm that older "Oschwald", pre-1984, Arca Swiss 171 mm panels fit the new cameras and vice-versa
New F-line, post-1984, 171 mm panels are by default recessed, this makes the camera more comfortable for wide-angle lenses. Older ones are plain flat and relatively easy to re-fabricate.

However the smaller panels for the 6x9 Arca Swiss cameras are different between the Oschwald and the current F-line
Older 6x9 panels are 109 mm in width. The standard ones were flat but recessed 109 mm panels existed for accommodating wide-angle lenses.
Newer F-line 6x9 panels are 110 mm in width and come either flat or recessed.
You cannot fit older109 mm panels on a newer F-line 6x9, and cannot fit a newer 110mm F-line panel on an older Oschwald 6x9 camera.
A 5x4" "field' model existed in the Oschwald catalogue, It is a "109 to 171 type" and uses the older 109 panels.
