Best postal service from USA?

Post by dennis » Sun May 08, 2011 9:05 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Apologies I know this has cropped up previously, but I can't find the thread.
What is the consensus on the best - price, reliability - postal service to use for importing from the USofA? Thanks. Dennis.

It's the senders choice really, USPS tracked should be good in theory but I've had tracking stop at the US airport on a shipment to Turkey and the package went missing.

Having said that I've only ever had two problems, one item was returned to the sender the other went missing but the seller didn't claim as he should have done.

I've used UPS who's tracking was superb, the only delays were UK Customs who took 3 days. Fedex are also OK.

All the stuff I bought from the USA US Postal seems the best service.

Clarify - reason for posting this is that Badger Graphics offer service from USPS & UPS with a couple of alternatives from each, & the question is, which is best, safest value? My only experience has been with books which came without problems, but then did not require customs, duty etc. Dennis.

There really isn't a winner, if you Google both then I'm sure you will find horror stories for both.
The stuff I've bought from BHphoto has been sent via both UPS and USPostal, both have been fine.
A lot of the stuff I bought via ebay has been sent US Postal and I've never had a problem.

The only thing I would add is that the USPS/Royal Mail combination has been known to be less "zealous" in collecting import duties.

Hi Joanna !
If the duties/VAT system is similar to the one in France, the USPS/Royal Mail is not less zealous. It applies the import duties allowances and threshold.
In France, the person/company doing the perception of the taxes is paid for this job (a little, but...)
So the Fedex or UPS companies charge you taxes just to get the reward. Add to this that they charge you a "processing fee" and you get a profitable business....
