For those that hadnt heard but were previous happy customers of MXV and then Penumbra I found out that Mark had passed away in very sad circumstances just before xmas. There was a recent thread in which a question was asked about his ebay shop.

Sorry to hear this as I always found MXV an honest bunch to deal with and had bought an item from Penumbra a year or so ago.

That's very sad. I bought a number of items from MXV and was sorry when they closed down. They were always very helpful when I spoke to them on the phone.

I absolutely agree. I bought my first camera from MXV, and he was a true gent to deal with. RIP.

I really miss MXV - they were a great source of reasonably priced gear.
He actually personally delivered my DeVere 504 all the way from the shop to here (Dundee) and it was included in the price!
A great shame they're gone - they weren't rip-off merchants and you could always guarantee that if something wasn't quite what it should be they'd take it back no questions asked.

The level of stock they held at mxv was huge too, and I sort of liked their quirky unsearchable website, made it feel like you earnt any bargains you found.

Very sad news. MXV were always brilliant to deal with, and I popped in there once and was made to feel very welcome. Not to mention their interesting and well-priced stock - much missed and RIP Mark.

I was really saddened to hear this news Paul Beaumont was a true gentleman. I visited MXV on quite a few occassions and was always glad that I had, Paul was the soul of courtesy who would often enjoy suprising you with gear that you had not previously realised you wanted.

I stumbbled upon a blog by a photographer called Ian Pack that I think makes quite a good tribute in its way
Paul Beaumont had a knack of recruiting very knowledgable staff who without exception also had a well developed collective sense of humour. In one case I'd say the humour was more warped than mine (which takes some doing!). It became a standing joke between Jim & I that the main reason I made period pilgrimages to Uckfield was the fact that I received a better level of abuse from the staff than I did at other camera stores.

I guess Dave may have been confused as Mark is Pauls sons name, perhaps people might edit their posts so your are remembering the right person
