Canoscan 9000F film scanner

Has anyone had any experience of the above. I have recently bought an Apple iMac and cannot get my old Epson Perfection1200photo to function on it as it is not supported any more, and really is too old to get good scans from 5 x 4 negatives/black&white negs.
The Canoscan would appear to work with OS Lion with possible silverfast drivers.
This item is about half the price of a V700 and am not too sure whether this would work on OS Lion.Any comments would help.

Hi. I have a 9000F flatbed which I used to scan a batch of medium format holiday snaps. Overall I was reasonably impressed with the quality and the speed is great. Scans required a large amount of sharpening as they were very soft - but this is very similar to the Epsons. I recently acquired an Imacon Precision II and two are not really comparable. The Imacon is pin sharp and reveals textures and fine details which the 9000F seemingly cannot pick up at all. I do think it is a reasonable scanner as long as you can work within its limitations it will serve well just as the Epsons will. However this scanner will not scan 5x4 - unless you scan it in two halves - it would scan 6x17 but nothing wider than rollfilm. Canon did create a flatbed (9950?) capable of 5x4 which can be found occasionally on Ebay for a good price. However with the high price the Epsons sell for new I'd personally pay twice the price and pick up an older second hand Imacon.

I use an Epson 1200photo, and it (as well as my Nikon 8000 ED) are supported under Windows 7 64bit using Hamick's. VueScan.

Steve-thanks very much for the info. You have just saved me about £370 as Epson suggested buying the V700. I downloaded the Vuescan software for the Epson Perfection 1200U which was the nearest to my 1200photo and also supported USB connection. Tried it and it works withe film scanner attachment which is all I really needed as I have a Canon printer/scanner for general flatbed work. If you ever come to Salisbury put your head round the door. Thanks again. John
