Mac iPhoto.

Post by dennis » Sun Sep 30, 2012 9:47 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Probably way off beam, but I am mildly miffed. Tried to add a few new digital pics to my iPhoto library today & found that the whole lot had disappeared! OK, they are primarily just diary pics & not of great importance to posterity - I do those on film - but I'd like to get them back if possible, they must be on my computer somewhere. Can anyone advise? Thanks. Dennis.

Assuming you run some kind of regular backup (time machine or otherwise) then you should be able to get them back. Probably just your library file is corrupted? Unless you accidentally deleted them...(check the trash!).

Thanks, but I foolishly do not have back up. They are not in the trash, that has gone as well. I've obviously deleted them somehow, but have no idea how or when. Stable door & all that . . .

Haveyou recently update the Operating system or iphoto to a new version or anything like that? If so could it have started a new blank library during the upgrade, leaving your old stuff in a library file somewhere? Might be worth a search of your hard drive for anynlibrary files.

I think they are probably not recoverable, by me anyway. I have tried everything I can think of without success. I do have the most important/interesting pics because they have been saved to other programmes for the most part & they still exist. Thanks anyway. Dennis.

Could I suggest you try searching the hard drive? For recent OS versions, use Go to menu choice on main screen, and look under all files and also under pictures. The older OS systems let you go straight to a hard drive search. Good luck. But they are probably there somewhere.

Thanks for that. I have just tried it & yes some at least are there & while I can open them from the 'find' page (I don't know what it is really called) they do not appear to be savable to anywhere they can be opened. A very laborious way of getting them I fear since it means trawling thro' lines of irrelevant stuff while looking for them. It is the best so far. Trying to save them to iphoto does not work, just get a label saying the file is not openable. Dennis

Search the Apple Mac forums about the problem, you may get lucky that someone has already found a solution to similar problem. I have always found information on various Mac mysteries there.

Many thanks for all the help. I have discovered that the pics are still lurking on my hard drive & it is now a matter of sorting how to access them. Dennis.
