Does anybody where the wake for this seemingly dead forum will take place? I suggest somewhere in the Midlands as if booze is involved I'm partial to a pint of Banks'.

Ok so to liven things up a bit, here is an area of LF where someone is putting in a bit of R&D and I have just ordered my first box of 10x8 and seriously looking forward to trying it. Has anyone else tried this stuff yet?

Sadly I think you are almost on the last rites. My personal view is that the self destruct button was pressed during the IG era and many of the main contributors and long standing champions of the forum have left. Joanna has been a big loss and has not been in communication at all (even with the mods) as far as I am aware after what became a very personal and unpleasant period for her. We live where we live, enjoy the cameras we enjoy - for personal reasons and the whole Northern Ebony too rich clique certainly dampened my enthusiasm for the internet fora as it just crossed a line from the jocular fun we all have to something a lot more unpleasant. This is all in the past but the legacy remains.

I would also suggest that we have lost quite a few people from the craft with the coincidental D800 release and the V50 announcements. The pool was already quite small and the tide has swung towards the digital crowd.

Any suggestions ? Maybe the Lakes meeting in the Spring will rekindle some of the old spirit.

And then of course, we're still waiting for the Midlands gang to organise a LF meeting of their own. But that would mean more doing and less bluster. Go on Vanman - you do it: it'll be great to discover new parts of the country and fresh faces.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello Charles,
Ian did just that a couple of years ago in the Ironbridge area. Nobody from the north turned up.
So it has been tried.

I haven't but it seems to make sense for you to kick off a separate thread regarding this and to 'rip' it out of this one, where it's difficult to trace

I've just remembered that Ian was going to organise another meet this year in the Worcester area but it appears that he's banned for some reason or another.

Hi Guys,

I must admit that the forum has been much slower that I thought it would be when I joined a couple of years ago, with no postings for weeks at a time. I remember some unpleasantness being aired, but wasn't party to it, and much prefer not upsetting other folk!

I gather the original purpose was to act as a notice board to promote meetings of like minded individuals, it is a shame that all that has gone by the board. If it will help to revitalise things I'll definately try to get to the Kendal meet. Maybe even if a couple of members meet up, they should post some images - just to try to encourage things to get off the ground again? Or are we flogging a dead horse?

Susie

PS. Very tired so sorry about any typo's, and rambling!

There is definitely a slow down in the postings on here, but there's still a relatively healthy number of people who are using the cameras and indeed meeting up.

I meet up quite regularly with Tim and Dav, and I know that they move in big circles with many other people who are also film fans.

It's just perhaps that forums aren't attracting people in the ways they used to. I left a professional image makers group a while back because they spent the whole time grumbling about young upstarts or how tough it was. I think that all groups suffer if all they is complain. Perhaps the death of V50 and our complaints about it were what really damaged the forum - people don't want to come on and be depressed.

Paul - decent point

there's surely plenty of choice available in 4 x 5, other than Velvia..................

chance to experiment with something different, which may have not been the case when Velvia was around, Foma 4 x 5 is almost cheaper than chips, try some of that, perhaps?

I've got to support Andrews suggestion for Foma film. OK, it's only available in mono but once you learn to handle it it's wonderful. Bloody hard to find in the UK but there are other options.
