Hi folks

I've just received my order for Photoshop CS3 from B&H in New York. Check out the price, it is virtually £/$ and it installs and activates fine !!!

I assume that you have bought a full version. The upgrade does not appear to be such a good deal.

Do you mind me asking, but B&H were always a pain in the.... proverbial about ordering from them, did you have any problems?

B&H used to refuse to accept anything but American Express for orders from outside the US, and wouldn't take a credit card unless you were standing in their store in New York. I pretty much gave up on them and only use their site now for price-checking. Adobe have also forbidden any of the companies from shipping CS3 outside the US, I know there are ways and means around this, but I'm quite surprised by such a large company as B&H openly flouting it.

I had intended to just get my CS3 delivered to friends in the US and have them post it to me, I hadn't really considered ordering directly.

I have ordered from B&H on many ocasions, and had no problem whatsoever with them. And the post it is often quicker from the US than it is within the UK!

B&H now distribute their catalogue over here and provide a UK 080 phone number; they certainly don't have any problem accepting any valid credit card.

I have only ever had one problem with delivery and that was because USPS, for some unknown reason, decided to keep a package at their US terminal for 5 weeks ??? B&H were very helpful and, as soon as USPS got the package returned to them as undeliverable ?? , they re-shipped it and it arrived in a few days.

Despite that, I would still choose Global Express Mail for shipping as their partners in the UK are Parcel Force who don't charge quite as much as UPS for collecting duties and taxes.

Joanna, to where did the 080 number put you through? When I tried it a few weeks back, after the ramble of the recorded message, I had to ring something like the federal and education order line direct to them in the US as it's the same number for foreign orders. I was promised an email update in a couple of days - I'm still waiting and the lens has been on back order for 5 weeks with an ETA to B&H of 7-14 days...

I've just fired off an exploratory email the Schneider in the US to see if they have any general info on deliveries etc..

If you're a new customer, you've to go through the fun of faxing / emailing them both sides of your credit card even though the online ordering has an independently run, extra security verification step in the process. Secondly, the one to watch out for when ordering is them coming back to you automatically saying that your credit card failed and to check your bank - when I ordered, it was the volume of traffic at their end that their system couldn't handle - no probs with my card as per my bank and if you wait until 10 mins after they close, the transaction sails through without a problem...

The number I dial is 0808 234 7276 and all I do is to press 0 instead of any other options; this gets me through to the switchboard where I ask for the customer service department.

As to their estimations of delivery times, I guess they are subject to the usual rules of supply and demand.

I always use Paypal with B&H. I would not fax them my CC details.

A quick update - had a reply from Schneider USA about my lens on back order - they quote 6-8 weeks delivery to the dealer from Germany so the B&H 7-14 days is a little "optimistic" to say the least (they do say it's an "estimate" )

It's a pity they can't save the postage and all the rest of the shipping time by sending it direct to me from the factory - it will be well-travelled by the time it gets to me - hope it's well packed...

I guess I'm getting a special order going through the works which is one reason for the delay - it's for the 120mm Apo Componon HM which they won't make too many of these days with all the d*****l stuff.

What lens are you waiting for Apple? I'm waiting on a 58XL, should have been delivered in week 20 but no sign as yet. I'm informed that Schneider have capacity issues since one of their lens grinding machines broke, and they're having to comission a new one.

I took the plunge for the enlarging lens to save cutting a hole in the ceiling or extending my arms

I already have a 135mm Rodenstock but it's just not wide enough to do any selective cropping at 16x20 enlargements.

Tim,

Has your lens come through OK? I've not heard anything yet from B&H but I've just been looking to order some stuff from The View Camera Store but because of USPS changes regarding international shipments, they're only sending stuff via UPS - the order is approx 140 USD and they want 113 USD to send it  plus, it's bound to get clobbered in customs over here if it's via UPS :(

If I look at their eBay store, they don't now put a shipping cost to the UK for certain items - unfortunately, the one's I'm interested in...

...unless anyone knows where to get BZTS stuff in the UK?
