TV Programme on Photography

Starting this Thursday 25th Oct, 9pm on BBC4 is a programme entitled "The Genius of Photography", about the history of our hobby. Supposedly a six part series, this first episode deals with 1800-1914.

Looks like it could be a good watch. Just thought I would bring it to your attention, as we never seem to get any decent telly programmes about photography usually.

There is also an accompanying book for £20

Unfortunately I'll not be able to watch the series but it should be excellent.

We shall be recording it on our PVR, from whence the files can be copied to media files on a computer. I will say no more, at least publicly.

Why did it have to be full of Americans? Haven't we got enough people over here to talk about photography or was it funded by the Yankee dollar so "editorial choices" were made?

Eastman came late into the fray, like the others later...

Gets into Anderson shelter and waits for the shelling to start...

God question, but somehow the Yanks (European immigrants) took photography to an art level over there and teach the public instead of banging the …. out of themselves as we did in Europe. And still we are nowhere nearby in this continent when it comes to photography's situation. Speaking a little further psychologically it’s in our heritage too. The European history had been painted with oil on canvas and we are not willing to expect any copies. The Yankee’s past (history) had been photographed and therefore they have a totally different view on the subject.

But one thing you should always remember! No one ever can produce a same copy of the same negative as mood and feelings are not the same it's changing all the time day by day when you print. I realized this a long time ago when printed images years lather from the same negatives. So, every analogue hand made copy you produce for exhibitions are physically unique. (Observe, it’s not so in the case of the digitalist’s)
