Hello there

I have already introduced my self few weeks ago, and sorry to have missed the lakes gatherings, hope you had a wonderful time, and that the weather and light was kind to you. Currently recovering from a knee operation, I am now just about able to continue pursing my hobby.

Well - I am new to LF, historically using 35 mm and canon 5D.

Bought my self an Arca and a copule of Lenses, fil holder, lupe, spot meter and any relevant items.

I am keen to get out and about, however I am unsure, and would welcome some support of memeber who live close by. I have already sent a Pm to a couple of you, and happy to travel a reasonable distance to spend the day with you, learing metering, filteriong and best practice.

Any offers.

By the way I am an Accountant, live in Bromham, Bedfordshire between bedford and Milton Keynes, Wife and children don't share the same passion but very supportive. Happy to travel @2 hours.

Look forward to any ioffers and to your next gathering.

Hi Issa

I received your PM but thought I couldn't really help as I too am a relative beginner and it would have been a bit like the blind leading the blind. My knowledge so far has been gained by just getting out there with my camera and some cheap B&W film, this I found has helped me enormously, you can't beat a bit of trial and error.

You mentioned in your PM that you were going to try and do a LF workshop with L&L, I have already booked myself on the Northumberland trip in March so may see you there.

Issa,

Paul has pretty much given the best advice available..... Get some cheap film and try :)
That is pretty hard to beat. You'll probably kill a few sheets, but hey, they're not horrendously expensive, especially if you develop yourself.

Alternatively, it may be possible to go out for a day with someone around your area (I recall there are a few people not too far from you), who would be prepared to talk you through things a little. That can be very instructive as well...

I assume you know the two standard books:
"Using the View Camera" by Steve Simmons, which is a very good startup book

and

"View Camera Technique" by Leslie Stroebel, which is a bit more like a technical textbook.

Both are worth having a look at as a startup, although Stroebel's is a bit on the expensive side when buying new.
