So what you got in your bag?

Hello to all girls and boys! :D

I’m a new foreign member of this site and just to get some idea I would like to know what kind of equipment you people use! I’m a multi shutter with all kinds of stupid cameras! I think different situations need different camera! I have a couple of 135 mm, some 4x5's the Linhof stuff and two 8x10's one of them is a Tachi and another is an old Seneca! I also have this 6x24 cm panoramic stuff from Tomiyama and last this Mamiya Universal thing!!

Right now I’m working on a homebuilt 20x24” view just for a fun!
Its all begin with building two very professional pinholes 4x5 and 8x10! Than I completely restored an old Seneca.

I feel home just as much on the streets as in the nature.

Hi Uranium

Good to hear from our neighbours in Scandanavia! From experience at workshops we have run the majority of us use 5x4 but there are a couple of 10x8 users too and dare I say ...digital (spit, cough, splutter)!!!!!

I'm sure everyone will give you a warm welcome and to start the ball rolling my camera bag(s) hold the following:

Ebony 45SU
Ebony RSW45
Cambo Wide 650 (with Schneider 65mm Super Angulon)

I use both 5x4 (Quickload) and 120 roll film in a Horseman 6x12 back.

Tripod is a Gitzo CF 1325 with Manfrotto 410 geared head.

First I thought like,….. that was a little set back with this site because you couldn’t illustrate your article with images! Now I know better and clearly understand the advantage of it!

Joanna! That was the most organized bag I ever seen in my entire life and I’m just glad that I can’t and I don’t know how to show you mine!!!!

Either one of two or three bags...

I used to have a small Lowepro S&F Trekker Light until my wife wanted it back for her 35mm gear. I sometimes borrow it anyway. That one is most likely to contain:
Gandolfi Traditional 5x7"
90mm f:8 Super-Angulon
121mm f:8 Super-Angulon
165mm f:6.8 Angulon
(210mm f:6.1 Xenar sometimes)
240mm f:5.6 Symmar
355mm f:9 G-Claron.
Everything fits in the bag, along with light meter, dark cloth and six holders.

So I bought a big Lowepro Trekker thingy - a VERY big one.
Sometimes the Gandolfi and all that goes in it, sometimes:
Carbon Infinity 4x5"
65mm f:8 Ilex Acugon
90mm f:6.8 Angulon
90mm f:8 Super Angulon
121mm f:6.3 Leitmeyr Weitwinkel-Anastigmat
150mm f:4.5 Apo-Lanthar
150mm f:9 Docter Germinar-W
180mm f:5.6 Symmar
210mm f:6.1 Xenar
240mm f:5.6 Symmar
355mm f:9 G-Claron.

You'll notice there are two 90mm's and two 150mm's in this pack. Both sets are a dark one and a brighter one with less coverage. I use the brighter ones if I don't need lots of movements.

Or maybe I pack the 18x24cm nameless plate camera, with 121mm Super-Angulon, 165mm Angulon, 240 Symmar, 300mm Symmar and 355mm G-Claron.

Or the 24x30cm plate camera - 210mm Angulon, 300mm Symmar, 355 G-Claron and a 150mm Busch Weitwinkel-Aplanat Serie C no.2 f:16 - no shutter, but that's all right since it only covers at f:64.

I have a 30x40cm plate camera too, but that's just too big to fit in any bag. If I bring it, I pack it in the trunk of my car. :)

That's where a "drool" emoticon comes in handy. Next forum will have one, right?

Well, the Carbon Infinity is the only thing which cost me over £1000. Most of the lenses cost me less than £50...

Hi Ole, I know you from APUG. I have tried to scout for cheap lenses on ebay etc but can never find the bargains you do, you must be blessed man!!
Where abouts in Norway are you? I used to live and work in Evje and Hovden in the Setesdal Valley, also spent some time in Dagali and Sjoa.
I had a question on my mind this afternoon I was gonna get in touch with you about, clean gone for now, this age thing is the pits

Sounds interesting ... Hope you can get to show us these at some point.

And how is that Seneca?

Gari,

Some of the lenses have been bought with "defective" shutters. Some of the shutters were easy to repair, some have been put in working shutters bought with broken glass. The Leitmeyr is in a shutter from a broken 90mm Angulon, the 90mm Angulon came with a totally gummed-up shutter, the 121mm SA has a 1 stop offset on the aperture from being put in a different shutter by a previous owner ("Aperture doesn't work").

For a while the old single-coated Symmars and Angulons were "unpopular", which is when I bought the 165 Angulon, and 180 and 240 Symmars. The 210 Angulon is from around 1939 - uncoated and bought as an "antique lens, maybe for plate camera!". The 300mm Symmar was glued to the lensboard - took me forever to get it off. I don't need lensboards for the big cameras, they're all equipped with iris mounts.

I picked up three G-Clarons (150, 210 and 355) together as "defective lenses for repair?" for the grand sum total of £30. I've given away the 150 in another "donor" shutter, I'm trying to sell the 210 (in new shutter, which makes it a bit expensive), and the 355 was just old enough to fit straight into a Compound #3 shutter I happened to have.

The Germinar-W was bought in barrel, and I bought a new shutter for that. At the same time I bought a shutter for the 210 G-Claron, but came across a 210mm f:6.1 Xenar which was practically unused at a bargain price (half the price of a shutter).

What else - the Apo-Lanthar has a scratch on the rear element. I bought that and three other lenses for the money I got when I sold a 210mm Apo-Lanthar which I got with one of my first LF cameras.

And then there are the barrel lenses... I've lost count of how many of these I have now. I can't help putting in a low bid if I see one on ebay, and every once in a while I win one. The "extremes" are the 150 WA Anastigmat at 80 gram, and a 20"f:3.5 Petzval at 2.4 kg - I need a bigger, stronger camera for that! The "small ones" I can use on a Speed Graphic I picked up last month for $56. Very old, no lens, scuffed leather... Imagine my pleasure when I received it, and saw that it had a brand new synthetic bellows, the focal plane shutter not only works but is accurate, and I had a small iris mount which just barely fit on the lensboard...

-----------
In reply to your other question, I'm just outside of Bergen on the west coast. I've spent some time in Evje myself, but not voluntarily (army duty). ;)

Now I've got questions for you, about converting Autographics...

I've wanted a Noblex for some time, or a Horizont. So far I've managed to steer clear. But I've picked up a handful on MF folders in the meantime, and several 6.5x9cm and 9x12cm plate cameras (3 6.5x9, 3 9x12cm).
