I'd love to help you, but it's a little bit too far to travel for one day. :)

Hmm there are a few people in the vicinity that could be available.

I think your best bet is a week or two after the Workshop in Glencoe.... We might make a bigger day of it and see if a few people could get together.

Jo, Helen, Andrew? How about it. Charles, you're only allowed if you don't move more than 10 m above the rest of the group

Best to discuss in a week and a bit when we are all back.

Hi from South Wales!

I'd be keen to get together over a weekend - I'm sure we could arrange a small gathering in Snowdonia as quite a few have shown an interest. I agree with Marc, once Glencoe is done and dusted it could be worth looking at??

Regards Paul

Dim prob... if we can predict a weekend with some decent weather. I say, D&G, do you know any good little spots that are not immediately accessible to the non-cymraeg-ophone - some small chapel or other, that is only accessible if we know somebody who knows somebody with a key? What about Segontium: is there anything there worth photographing? There are a few ruins in the Nantlle quarry, and plenty of deciduous trees on the north flank of the Nantlle ridge itself, which turn a nice colour at this time of year. Do you know if there are any photogenic bits on the railway line between Beddgelert and Caernarfon?
Charles, you're only allowed if you don't move more than 10 m above the rest of the group

Do you mean I have to carry you to within 10m of the top of the hill???

Hi all

Dave, thanks for posting, this flagged up that this topic was still not resolved.

Du a gwyn and Tombo, if you are still up for it, how about looking for a free weekend soon, say a couple of weeks after Christmas and New Year ?

You're taking a chance with the weather, but why not? However we should expect last-minute cancellations from long-distance travellers (me included) if the forecast is bad. The best chance of snow but also worse weather is up around Snowdon and the Glyders. The terrain there is harder going so not suitable for a group with mixed physical fitness. I would recommend the lower Mawddach. Dolgellau and Barmouth can provide warmth and comfort. There are sandy beaches and rocky beaches. On the north side, there is the chambered cairn at Ardudwy and the castle plus beach at Harlech. It's an easy walk to Pont Fadog and Pont Scethin - the latter is good for its setting if it is a little further and wetter. A modest climb of the hill behind Barmouth offers good views of the Rhinogs, the Mawddach and the Cadair Idris ridge. There are waterfalls and old mines in Coed y Brenin. On the south side, there is the Cadair ridge that could be climbed given the right weather. Less trying but rewarding are the couple hanging valleys on the southern side of the ridge. The lakes at Gregenen are pretty and accessible by car... if the road does not freeze over. So overall a good mix for a group. And there is much else to explore within an hour's drive (slate quarries, lake Bala, ruined castles, barren moors, streams, high mountains...). Does anybody know what the George III at PenMaenPool is like these days and whether it can accommodate a group of us? I presume the toll bridge is open at this time of year. There is also the option of King's YHA.
Over to you.
Charles

I camped on the Forest Enterprise site just outside Beddgelert a few years ago in April. There was plenty of snow on the hills but on the last night it snowed so hard that my tent collapsed and I had to bail out. To cut a long story short the only way out was North along the coast and round to Chester. Every route through the mountains was blocked so Bala, Dolgellau, Harlech etc were all cut off.
Another time I stayed in Penygroes at the western end of the Nantlle valley, this time in February. It gave excellent access to the mountains but when the weather turned nasty we headed out onto the llyn Peninsula for a touch of tropical stuff. Great north coast all the way along and stunning beaches on the south side.
